Class of 2025 SG Kiyan Anthony (NY) COMMITTED & SIGNED TO SYRACUSE (11/15/24)

By starting, do you mean playing big minutes?

Anyway you slice it, I think we are in big trouble because I don’t see who (currently) is blocking Kiyan’s minutes
We haven't even started the portal.

Not yet anyway
I am baffled by our recruiting ranking then. Sounds like Kiyan is added to our project group and Sadique is the only high level guy we have in the fold and he has deficiencies also. I am not encouraged where I once was.

He’s not a project. He needs to refine his skills
and gain some weight. Good grief.

Refine his skills? How long does that take because we are in the new age and we need him to be good immediately which Millhouse is hearing that will not be the case. The quote was " If he is a starter, we are in trouble."

Are you new to this? Outside of Duke no one is winning anything with freshmen anymore. He and White are somewhere in between Moore and Freeman next year. That isn’t winning sht. UNC has Ian Jackson who was a top 5 HS player this year. They stink and he doesn’t even start.

So from what I'm reading he's not blowing by anyone and playing above the rim. He's also not that great of a 3 pt shooter so the mid range game is his strength. I also wonder how he is gonna defend. I'm not sure how this is gonna translate and make any impact.

Mid range, long 2s are the worst shots in college bball. Nate Oates approach to analytics sort of proves this.

He is a good prospect. Not an impact player
That's how I would describe him too yet the local media fools keep citing him as the reason to keep Red. I know we've went in circles on this and covered all aspects. For those paying attention you will be wise to have tempered expectations for next year.

When you have a team that can’t score or shoot, I’ll take as many long twos as I can get.

I’ve seen a lot of his games and Kiyan is definitely not an impact player right now. He is smart and steady and plays at his own pace (ie: Moten). He will need to get stronger and better defensively, and should be a solid 4 year college player. The smart move would be to continue building his own fortune through NIL and his other ventures, while working on his body and game and he will most definitely get a good shot at the NBA after 4 years, especially being Melo’s son.

I agree, this board is 10x worse than our BBALL team, that must be horrific. even the longtimers. Time to take a break

Put together a spreadsheet of the EYBL's top scorers this season so you can see how our guys compare to the other top 20 scorers in the league (both Kiyan and Sadiq White cracked the top 20).

See Google Doc Here

The short summary of it for Kiyan:
  • 6th in the league in points per 40 minutes and #9 in terms of TS%. Among the top 10 scorers, Kiyan ranks #4 in TS%. Suffice to say, he's been an impressive scorer compared to his peers despite being a below average 3 point shooter.
  • #3 in free throw rate (# of FTA divided by FGA; basically how often they draw fouls) and #4 in 3 point rate (same thing but for 3 point attempts, meaning 3 pointers are a larger part of Kiyan's diet than nearly everyone in the league. Being high in both of these areas suggests he's taking the types of shots you want in this analytics era; if he's not able to get into the paint and draw fouls, he's taking 3 pointers. Obviously you'd like to see him make more of the 3 pointers, but when you're working with relatively small sample sizes, who knows, maybe it just wasn't his season.
  • Near the bottom of the list in terms of rebounds and assists per 40. The assists might not be entirely his fault; the Mingo brothers both rank near the top of the group in that regard so my guess would be that's more of their role on the team (but this is purely a guess on my part; I haven't watched anything beyond highlights). Dylan Mingo is also averaging 8.7 rebounds per 40 as the team's point guard; extremely impressive.
