Class of 2017 SG/SF Jordan Tucker (NY / GA) Leaving Duke to Butler

To follow up with my last post they can actually sign paperwork to make it official during this time period correct?

Why don't we wait and see if Tucker follows through on his word. Seems like he still could and I say good job by staff to get back in it and fight like hell to get this guy.I am confident the staff will find someone else if this doesn't work.

The not doing enough for the modern day recruit is nonsense. What we haven't done is not have our head coach out like everyone else does. I saw it happen to Big john at G-town and louie at St john's. We had two great kids slip away at the end to Kentucky and duke. It happens to anyone they are up against.
That's what I meant by not doing enough. I'm don't know how much JB used to grind on the recruiting trail 20-25 years ago, but in the last 10-15 years, we've basically only recruited players from the northeast region, with a few exceptions. I think with the talent pool in the NE we can compete for championships recruiting only this region, and up until the last year or so we pretty much did. However, we are entering a completely new era of recruiting. Social media has completely changed society, and these kids are treated like rockstars and want constant pampering and attention. JB is obviously not doing that, which is not surprising because it doesn't seem to fit his personality. I know there has been some rumblings in the past about JB's assistants being frustrated from a lack of clarity about who he wanted them to go after (from a reliable source). Maybe that explains how guys like Lonnie Walker and Thomas Bryant stop hearing from us when we should be putting on the full court press?

10:11 PM and he's still uncommitted

Didn't we have zero involvement for a while? Isn't he our rebound guy?

Literally, what on earth does that have to do with Tucker committing to the coaching staff on Friday?

Are you comparing us getting involved with Tucker two months ago and pushing hard to land him in the interim, to Duke calling him 24 hours ago? Is that honestly the comparison you are attempting to make here? Wow.

Aint over yet!

Tucker loves retweeting. Like most kids who are 18 nowadays, the attention on social media is a big deal for them. Before the Duke offer, Tucker only had 1 more time to get attention - when he committed. Now, he is getting attention for the Duke offer, then once that settles, he will get attention when he commits. Because of this, I could see him taking the week to "decide".

I have no inside knowledge or anything, but is it a given that just because Duke offered he'd go there? Seriously, K plays 6.5 guys and once Allen said he was coming back, it really took any open time for a wing with Gary Trent in the fold.

We play in the same conference. We both have HOF coaches. We both send players on the NBA. We may not have the "allure" of Duke. But we can offer probably 35 minutes of PT a game.

We probably could have had him a year ago, but iced him out pretty hard. So I can see the irony from his side as well - we only came calling when we really needed him. He's doing to us what we did to him.

re: Coach K offering. It seems that a few knowledgeable posters in this thread today have implied he gave our coaches a verbal (much like Quade). Coach K calling is what it is. What are the chances K even knew? JB probably understands this is part of recruiting and probably goes on way more than we think, so it doesn't bother me.

For all we know Tucker may honor his rumored commitment. But by getting the Duke offer - he can brag about it.

I wouldn't count on it. But who knows?

Good post. My concern is he's been clamoring for a Duke offer forever. Now he has it.

He did verbal over the weekend and Coach K still offered.
If that's true, that is a complete Richard move by K. I'd be furious if I was Boeheim. Also, this can all be traced back to Knox surprising everyone and choosing UK over Puke, so we can thank Cal and WWW again. Screwed by them twice in one recruiting cycle.

I'm sure he's not going to jump on the Duke offer five seconds after they give it like K's lapdog. If he accepts, he should wait at least a day before giving up all his attention to take a spot on the Duke bench aka 4 star purgatory.

Maybe i haven't been following all along, but tell me how this works?

Someone said Tucker verballed to us.
How would K know about that? I'm assuming there's no classified central computing system where coaches register verbals and competing coaches have to check before making their own offers.
So, if K 'offered' Tucker, how does that work? Is it a Letter? A phone call or text? What constitutes an offer? If it's a phone call, sure, K should ask, 'Hey, son — did you verbal anyone already?' If it's a letter or email, then isn't it just a letter saying we will give you a scholarship?
Where's the treachery?
And, even if the two coaches are friends, they're still trying to beat each other in the same conference.

This whole 'verbal' thing is ridiculous. NCAA ought to 'ban' it and regulate the entire commitment system. When 17-year olds are allowed to manipulate old, rich white guys and the alums and locals that have their emotions triggered by the doings of the rich old white guys as determined by the 17-year olds... somethin's wrong.

If you read the Duke board tucker is like an afterthought. Kid might play 5-10 minutes for them and then get recruited over next year. He comes to cuse and JB will have him in the NBA

It really is pretty incredible.

We're talking about an immediate 30+ minute a game, potential one-and-done prospect and possibly the deciding factor of next year being a tourney vs NIT team.

While a lot of their board is somewhat reluctantly accepting a 3-4 year developmental program player.

Just amazing. God Bless America

It makes no sense, but those females at Duke are...never mind. I hope he comes to his senses, and realizes that we can put him in the league in two years.

While, at Duke he may average 2 points in his first year before getting recruited over. He's our 3 for the future. At Duke he's number 3 off the bench.

Oh well. He, and his family have to do what they think is best. Good luck.
