Class of 2017 SG/SF Jordan Tucker (NY / GA) Leaving Duke to Butler

Literally, what on earth does that have to do with Tucker committing to the coaching staff on Friday?

Are you comparing us getting involved with Tucker two months ago and pushing hard to land him in the interim, to Duke calling him 24 hours ago? Is that honestly the comparison you are attempting to make here? Wow.
No. I am complaining about SU people saying don't go to Duke because they have not been recruiting you all along. You are just Duke's rebound chick.
Pot and kettle.

What in the world are you talking about, please elaborate.

How did we give him too much leeway?

...by allowing him to announce whenever he wanted to.

Look, understand we blew him off for six months or whatever (justifiably) but once he gave our staff the verbal, we should've (maybe) said, "we are sending over the NLI for you to sign. You can announce your decision whenever you'd like, but please send the NLI back to us. You can of course make your announcement whenever you'd like but we need the NLI ASAP so we can move on to our other needs in this class. We have one (or two) other players to add but you are critical at this juncture."

After QG, we shouldn't have allowed JT to have a window where he could screw us over. Make the commitment just that to avoid being left at the altar again.

Again, maybe we were not in a position to hold a hard line but I doubt Duke would put the player in a position to spurn them. Well, maybe they would since he's a luxury. For us, he was as close to a necessity as possible.

What makes you think we didn't ask him to sign the NLI immediately? But the reality is that if he was willing to sign the NLI, he would have been willing to publicly commit. It doesn't seem that hard to figure out. Y

ou have a better understanding of the recruiting process than to suggest we had control over when a kid with pretty sophisticated family representation is going to make/announce his decision....especially when we have exactly zero real leverage with him given our extreme need at the position and lack of similar level options still available.

And, he isn't screwing us over if he backs off on a commitment given one or two days earlier. It's not like the QG situation where we seemingly made lots of decisions on other kids based on what we thought was a pretty firm verbal commitment from Green. Tucker's apparent waivering happened so quickly, we didn't have time to allow ourselves to be screwed by it.

Good point. Yes, he would've been willing to announce immediately, if he were willing to sign the NLI. Sure. My point is we could still try to get the NLI and he could still do the announcement how and when he'd like. But you are right, maybe he wanted to see what else was out there (Duke if Knox didn't go there). Maybe the destination is more important to him than the announcement (duh) but he wanted to do it on ESPN so he'd love to make a huge splash.

He spurned us. You can use whatever verb you like.

Stop with your rational line of thought. Thats not allowed here. Lets just make assumptions based off other assumptions and then mix in some MMQ for the heck of it.

Is it bad I don't even care?
I feel like this but then I realize how bad our roster is compared to the rest of the ACC. Then I get mad at the coaches for our season depending on a recruit in May.
I am with both of you as well. I am at the point, where I hope JB really shows me something I am not seeing, but, it is more and more apparent to me at least, that there isn't some grand plan in place where JB understands something we don't. Before I get jumped on, in no way am I basing this off of Jordan Tucker going to Duke. We will always lose kids to Duke, but there is plenty of talent out there, and we have not been smart in how we go get it. Our inability to get a solid/great PG has been killer, and the Hop news made me a bit numb. Reeling in Tucker would have made me a bit more optimistic, but, I guess we will see what happens. Very curious though to see how we balance next years roster out, because right now, it is not good.

To my knowledge Tucker has not told our staff he isn't coming here but our staff is well aware that he always wanted that Duke offer and they know they are now climbing an uphill battle, more like climbing Everest battle.
Please tell me there is a plan B . (Viable plan B for another small forward specifically)

Is the staff backup for SF a grad transfer or the Euro dude?

I know about the guard grad transfer backup.

Saw this on gt board

It was not smart but who knows whom it was about. It was from early April.

Thanks, I didn't realize it was basically from a month ago. Your right though, no matter who it was about its a bad decision to call them out.

Coach K is the kid at the party who grabs most of the piñata candy or Easter eggs smh

Not even sure it was about somebody in particular. Sounds more like a general observation, and one that's not too smart either. Twitter is just a vehicle for the kids and they surely want attention, but it's not just about likes. They're looking for a job, so why not get as many quality offers as you can before making a decision. Didn't he do the same before accepting GT assistant job?
