otoh, uconn placed a huge emphasis on attitude and culture fit...so you dont wanna bring in any bad apples for the end of the bench spots...(which should be ovious, but its worth mentioning)At the end of the process there are going to be players looking for homes. Worrying about the 11th man seems insane to me. Players will be available for those spots.

My favorite college living situation was Delta Tau Delta. I miss the shelter some days.

Then I got an apartment on Harrison with some friends and realized living in a place not undergoing gradual demolition was better, but not by much.
Absolutely correct. Perhaps the poster wasn't thinking clearly or just wasn't thinking.Good grief. I just can't even answer a post like that. Kids want money and playing time. There is only so much playing time available. We aren't going to play 12 guys the minutes they want.
Remember, anyone on next years roster will get a cut of the $1 million NIL Tournament. This, as we saw last year a few guys in the portal may change their mind ala Petar or Cuffe and decide to stick around or you'll grab some other teams version of said player whose OK filling a part time/bench role. As you noted there's literally thousands in the portal, filling out the backend spots isn't gonna be a problem.
Someone else might have been saying that. I think having non walk-on practice players would be helpful.I have a poster telling me that we should be able to bring in 15 good guys. I just don't see that as a possibility. If we can get to 11, I would be very happy with that.
I do as well. But no way you get anyone that can really play to go to Syracuse and be the 13th guy. Or 14th. Or 15th. Why would they? They won't get money and they won't play.Someone else might have been saying that. I think having non walk-on practice players would be helpful.
Of course not. But remember, there are guys who are trying to gradually get into a position to make money. They can go from JUCO to bench at Syracuse to starter at someplace in the Horizon League or similar and then back to P5 for a bunch of money. A circuitous, but not impossible path.I do as well. But no way you get anyone that can really play to go to Syracuse and be the 13th guy. Or 14th. Or 15th. Why would they? They won't get money and they won't play.
I would roll with 8 maybe 9 at most that get paid real money. Get some kids to fill out the roster pay them a few bucks and call it a dayI do as well. Being in the NIL tournament next year means everyone will get a healthy check.I would roll with 8 maybe 9 at most that get paid real money. Get some kids to fill out the roster pay them a few bucks and call it a day
We could use Judas for NIL
Jesus had 12 apostles, so maybe that's the way to go.
Of course, one was Judas, so if we can avoid that guy, maybe 11 is the move.
Think Lucas Taylor. His name didnt pop up until late...and while he had his warts. He was a fine 10th guy type to play 10 mins.At the end of the process there are going to be players looking for homes. Worrying about the 11th man seems insane to me. Players will be available for those spots.
JB ran a lot of 4 v 4 drills.With 9 guys you can run the coveted 5 v 4 drill…..

The problem arises when the 10th guy type ends up starting.Think Lucas Taylor. His name didnt pop up until late...and while he had his warts. He was a fine 10th guy type to play 10 mins.
Of course, which is what happened with a guy like Taylor or Davis. Quality bench guys who had certain playable skills. But when the start playing 30+ you see what they don't have. The problem arises when the 10th guy type ends up starting.
The video of everybody besides Lampkin was underwhelming, to say the least. Nothing like the video we’re seeing from Kyle and Kingz. Physically, Kyle plays way bigger than his listed 6’9” 230, and Kingz just looks really good, statistically and in his highlights. Not that it really matters but when the portal is done I sort of want to see the highlight videos of the portal guys we had last year at this time compared next to what we end up with this year.
Last year I really only remember Eddie’s. Makes me wonder.
#ZONEOur best teams mostly had a 7-8 man rotation. 2012 was the exception. You can hope that maybe 2 of the younger guys are ok with this year getting spot minutes, but there's really no point having more than 10-11 guys anymore. No one wants to sit and wait to play.
This was a big problem with last year, hopefully we have better health luck next year. The problem arises when the 10th guy type ends up starting.
