If we lose out this year and he has some more questionable post game comments can you see the powers that be moving on from him? I think it could be possible if this season turns our really bad. I think both Gross and Shafer could be going out the door. I know most coaches get more than two years but with the way SU is changing I could see something happening at the end of season if the season turns out to be a nightmare?

if we go by history no he gets 3 years for sure, 4 if theres any sign of hope in year 3. That said in my lifetime I can't recall ever Syracuse acting like a big boy school with a comparable move like this essentially sending the message they won't tolerate this or accept this laying down. Good message to send IMHO and who knows whose ears this gets into starting likely with this weekends broadcast when things get out of hand.

SO that said anything now appears to be possible and if they lose out then he could get canned. Don't see those things happening though as I expect a circle the wagons mentality going forward and a surprise win or two down the road.

The school put off building an IPF for the longest time even though it was necessary. Now it's been done even though the funds aren't all there. Do you really expect them to buy out Shafer's contract at this point? I will drink a glass of pink zinfandel from a box if it happens.

What if the new person (Syverud) wants to bring his own group of people? Could be worth the Shafer buy out to him. Syverud has ties to Ohio State so someone like Tom Herman could be intriguing to him?

He can want what he wants. If he's a responsible manger he will look at the books and delay his gratification.

You can look at it two ways...Maybe going into a totally difference direction will be the right mix and actually produce a winner here and get the fans back? A step back to make a major jump forward. A great exciting football team will make more money than keeping the same product we have.

been there, done that and it still gives you a buzz

Someone else made the comment in another thread that canning a new coach after two years makes a bad impression to the pool of available coaches. I don't know if that is exactly true. But I could see that a poor year of recruiting could see HCSS booted. He is in a pickle. If GMD worked out for him then all was going to be good with recruiting and a nice new OC but he lost that roll of the dice amd will be hurtingon two critical fromts movjng forward. That will be tough to overcome.

Syverud is a hard-core Michigan fan (and alum). You know that right? Ties to Vandy? Sure. Ties to SLU? Sure. Ties to OSU? No.

HCSS won't get booted. Everyone else might be a different story.

We pay Shafer to coach. I could care less about a comment taken out of context after a particularly horrible game. Yes, its fun to play with the ISIS thing, but it is totally out of context and bull crap.
I agree with this. Winning fixes virtually everything, and losing makes virtually everything a problem.

That said, we need to start winning, and to do that, we need to address the cause of the problems. IMO, that falls on our assistant coaches. I think that HCSS could still be good if he's given quality people around him. He is very smart, he is very knowledgeable, he is very loyal, and he is very passionate. If we can groom him into a good head coach, I think that he will be a major asset for the university.
