shafer twatter

boom. deleted.

Certain people took it the wrong way. Don't blame Shafer for deleting. But people seriously need to stop taking themselves so seriously (at least in my opinion). Tweet was from the Syracuse (snow capital of the world) head coach.

It was poor taste.

It wasn't the snow... it was the snow in a warmer climate that turned the roads into sheets of ice. Yes, part of the problem was due to bad gambles made by politicians.

When you have loved ones who need 8-10+ hours to get home, kids that need to spend the night at their schools and you have to abandon your car on the highway it's not amusing.

Uneducated poor taste by those behind the twitter keyboard. As Herm Edwards would say, "Don't press send!".

Shafer doesn't actually tweet, does he? It's some GA?

I have to agree with this. I've always thought it was laughable that the south shuts down when there's a threat of bad winter weather, but living in Texas I've come to realize...they need to. In my county, there are four - FOUR - sand/salt trucks, including zero in my town (which is about 35k people, so not huge but certainly not a small town). They simply don't have any way to deal with it because it happens so rarely that it's just not practical for the city/county to buy and maintain the proper vehicles.

And the ice gets BAD. We had an ice storm a month and a half ago and despite growing up in Vermont and going to SU, I don't know that I've ever driven on more treacherous roads.

Most likely.

Official social media content needs to be provided by a communications professional, not some insensitive kid trying to be cute.

Jeeze it really hit a nerve with people down there.. it was funny

yes it did. i made a joke about it to one of my cousins down there and she went ballistic.

how big are these districts that kids were stranded over night. 10 miles from home?

Cut him some slack. He's been out recruiting non-stop for like 3 weeks. He's like Michael Dukakis during the last days of the 1988 Presidential campaign. He won't sleep until selection day.

Snow is one thing, Ice is another.

We don't handle Ice all that well either.

Waste of money for southern cities to invest in the assets to mitigate a once in 10 year storm.

Yup.

The Twitterer made uneducated assumptions about the cause(s) of the problem.

I didn't get that from reading that 2" of snow shut atlanta down. thats what happened.

i'm prettty sure that most people would know that atlanta doesn't have sand or salt trucks but I don't think Leon rates up there with Sandy or Katrina, lets be real.

Shafer for sure does not do his own tweeting

It's a fairly well covered story and the issue is not 2" of snow, it's ice. Ice that has left people stranded for nearly a day now because they don't have any salt or trucks to lay it down with. Kids, grandma's what have you stuck on the highways. It was definitely in poor taste which is why it has been deleted. IF it was Shafer I'm sure he didn't know the full extent of the situation.

Every time I talk to anyone from down south they brag about the weather. It's a common refrain to our recruits - sure you want to go up there to that snow and cold?!? Freaking 3 months of brushing 2 inches or more off of my car every morning!?

If you can't take the joke - don't brag on your weather.

We deal with that at least 3-4 times a year. Things close, we find a way. Poor taste or no - some thin skin...

People love their drama!! The horror!!!!!!

What does a 1/2" of snow have to do with football?

If it was 2" of snow on cold roads then you'd be right, but that's not what happened.

I grew up in Rochester, went to school at SU and then lived 6 years in the Southern Tier, and one winter in Minnesota. I've also lived in TX for 8 years and now 7 years in GA. Winter storm driving conditions in the South are different. It isn't the snow... it's the ice. Northerners appear to stick their heads in a snow drifts and fail to acknowledge this difference.

I never made that comparison.

I don't think they can even imagine what winter in Syracuse is like. Not a day or two - 4-5 months.

There's this assumption that because we have plows and salt everything is cake.
