Watch it. I got a more than a few titles from that manLet me just say - Red Auerbach.

Maybe the staff didn't want another pain in the ass primadonas like the 3 guys who just left. Maybe Owens was one of a group of similar developmental guys they were looking at and they said give Billy's son the shot for a year. This was basically HoWash's scholarship. How many people get jobs because of connections?
If you don’t think that type of stuff doesn’t happen in all forms of Life I can’t help you.
I am proud of Jim Boeheim taking care of an alum’s son who was outstanding for him and the school.
He had the spot and used it.
You think it’s demeaning to say that I don’t.
If I got into Harvard law because of a connection and I graduate from Harvard law school what do they call me? A Harvard law graduate.
We disagree you said nothing to counter the point we had a top notch OL left by Marrone. You mean the 2013 team that Shafer led to a bowl win against a B1g team? Not to mention that Hunt got hurt I believe on this first play of the game in game one of those years. But Marrone left with a full cup board. We ended up with a walk on QB during that time. Yeah, that roster was just chalf full of NFL types. How many were drafted? How many of them stuck in the NFL. The cupboard was bare. I was around when we had talent. We haven't had that in a long time. I hope we can win 5 or 6 games this year. But we sure didn't have it at the start of Shafers tenure. Didn't have it when he left either. Except for the most part Eric Dungey.

Shafer is not even in the rear view mirror any more.Babers has more to crow about than any coach since P... and it’s not much of a discussion either.
Shafer is the 2nd worst since P.
I'm not defending Shafer. I am disputing your take that he inherited a good team from Marrone. He didn't. Didn't do much good while he was here. As for Dino, he doesn't need to keep producing. He really needs to start producing. One winning year out of 4 isn't producing. The 10 win season was great. More ED than Dino. Oh, and we have a major disagreement on what top notch is.We disagree you said nothing to counter the point we had a top notch OL left by Marrone.
The running game was top notch with Jerome Smith, Prince Tyson Gulley.
Defend Shafer it’s all good.
That horrible hire is gone. I am fan of
Dino but he needs to keep producing.
Shafer was hired to continue Marrone’s program he failed. He should have never been hired. That is on Gross.
Howard Washington wanted to leave.Maybe the staff didn't want another pain in the ass primadonas like the 3 guys who just left. That is what I was implying. Regarding Harvard, connections will not try to get you in to a place like that unless they believe you will produce. And regarding this thread with all the Shafer bashing do to their first game, I hope the Orange don't end up with a similar result in Chapel Hill.Howard Washington wanted to leave.
Syracuse didn’t push him out.
Once he left JB did what he has done numerous times. He used an available scholarship on a project. Good for that kid he deserves it and it’s good by Jim Boeheim always reward people who have been good to you in the past.
I was crushed that his team beat mine that day, but it didn’t bother me a bit that he celebrated his success with a cigar.
He coached a great game that day.
And, he embraced the players he brought to Syracuse before and after the game.
He didn’t leave Syracuse University - he was fired.
I wish him well.
LeBron Ellis (at home reading this forum): What! Bro, why am I getting brought into this weird shite show of a thread?I respect the respect you have for those who tried to contribute to success for Syracuse Football.
But to compare Red Auerbach to FHCSS in any way is like comparing LeBron James to LeBron Ellis as basketball players. There are technical similarities but the two could not be further apart.
He obviously meant LaPhonso Ellis and comparing LaPhonso Ellis to LeBron against Shafer to Auerbach is an insult to LaPhonso.LeBron Ellis (at home reading this forum): What! Bro, why am I getting brought into this weird shite show of a thread?

He was a high draft pick and at least had a decent career as a role player.
Shafer will never be close to the level coach Auerbach was.
Yeah let’s run the three-man front against an option offense, friggin brilliantThe GA Tech game was brutal.
And much worse in person... <oy>The GA Tech game was brutal.
Yup, I agree with the first part completely. You said one thing and then flipped over night to a position on the opposite extreme with no real prompting beyond the AD telling you to drink a different flavor kool aid. I don’t have to ask anyone. I saw it with my own eyes.Ask anyone here. I carried water for SS a long time. I’m well acquainted with the arguments about what he inherited, budgets, and hiring.
Living with bad hires is the job he signed up for. To his credit, he tried to right the ship with Lester’s promotion. It’s a tough gig.

And it’s not a matter of what SS signed up for. He got (and still recurves) a boatload of cash to sooth his feelings with regardless to what people in message boards write. It’s a discussion between fans.
Making a definitive statement about his competency as a head coach based on his time at Syracuse is somewhere between ignorant and disingenuous. He was too hamstrung by circumstances to see if he would fall or fly. Maybe he would have crashed. Maybe he would have been great. There’s no real way to know or say for sure.
I thought the worst of all was in 2015 when he didn’t go for the win in the 2nd OT against UVA. We were on the road and all kicking the PAT did was send it OT number three where you HAVE to go for two and we had the ball first. Gutless wimp when it came to strategy
He took us to a bowl win his first year.
He was not over his head that season.
He had horrible luck with QBs the next two seasons - our first seasons in the ACC.
Plus, Doug Marrone did not leave the cupboard full of talent when he left.
I recall disagreeing with some of Scott Shafer’s decisions toward the end, but I didn’t ever feel that he was over his head.

The MTSU offense did nothing all game long, how is that score on the DC?
And much worse in person... <oy>
We went back to our tailgate location after the 3rd quarter. The only SU game that I’ve ever not seen the end of.
