JB should call Sherman Douglas and see if he will come up and work with Frank and John for a bit. Because those two need to grab the rest of the guys by force, if necessary, and demand they run the offense correctly. But honestly, I don't know if there is an offense. Looks like a bunch of chaos out there. But, when you have Lydon or Coleman wide open on the post and you just pass the ball around the perimeter and look lost or Lydon, instead of getting to the free throw line and facilitating against the opposing zone from there, takes it at the top of the key. Sherman would have ripped these guys apart if they made the stupid decisions that this team makes 99% of the time.

Honestly, I don't think there is fixing the basketball IQ of this team, but if anyone could, I think it might be Sherman Douglas (among those who we might actually get to pop in). I am normally very positive, but I am exhausted.

I was told that Frank could teach a few things to Sherm before the season.

well at least sherman made the pros. that's more than choice A .B.C. D. or most likely even E.

This Ian going to be unpopular but there is an offense...obviously some might say but the problem is...are Andrew White and John Gillion, Team White or Team Gillion? Or are they for team Syracuse? Gillion way too many times has gone on 2 v 1 or 3 v 1 fast breaks and just taken the ball himself to the hoop, most of the time the bad play. Yesterday when we had a 5 on 3 break he stopped on a dime from the 3 pt line and took a 3...like come on. Same can be said about white to a lesser extent, I think white is just overplaying his hand thinking he needs to score every time down the court because he is viewed as the "scorer" of the team. To me these 2 need to run the offense and stop worrying so much about how many points they have or should have and just play the game. Probably unpopular but that's what I see.

Always appreciate your thoughts and starting to get the feeling that Lydon is deferring to White as well. We need more of our guys to start playing like DC, like they don't GAF.

I have no problem with White taking a lot of shots...he was 3-11 last night but there were at least two misses that were halfway down and popped out.

What the PGs cannot do is Cooneyize him by feeding him the ball on the wing with 5 seconds left in the shot clock and expecting him to create his own shot...that also happened last night...

I wonder what drove JBs philosophy change in regards to style of play. The mid 80s and 90s style of play was really to push it and own the tempo. It was that way through Melo in 03 and then it just morphed it seems like to a more controlled tempo possession style. Maybe it's partly the evolution of the 3 into the players game somewhat but man I really miss those days of pushing it up the court...fast pace...tomahawk dunks and great Oops being tossed. That was a really fun brand of hoops.

One of my favorite quotes by Coach Mac was "We play Boeheim-style football. We push it up the field and into the hoop."

I just thought with all of the angst of this week I’d post this clip I saw this am. Insane and incredibly great fortune that we got to root for and enjoy this guy for 4 years.
Love this. I was in the Dome that night (14 years old) when Sherm broke Dave Bing’s all-time scoring record and the NCAA all-time assist record. What a capstone to a legendary career. That Elite Eight loss to Illinois a few weeks later was just devastating.

We lost a lot of athletes with the first set of sanctions in the early nineties. Lineups with guys like Lawrence Moten, Adrian Autry, Lazarus Sims, Dave Siock, and Lucious Jackson just weren't as athletic as what we had prior. Even though some of those guys were all time great players, they did it in a different way. We probably didn't get that kind of athleticism again until 2003.

I remember listening to that game on the radio. I don't know if it was on ESPN, but we didn't have cable in my town yet. I remember being happy when there were away games then because they would be on local TV more often whereas the home games were only on TV when televised nationally.

We maybe slowed down a little in those Moten years but even then we I think were still scoring in the upper 70s, 80s and 90s each game. Maybe it's recency bias but it feels like for the last 10 to 15 years our offense has been significantly more tempo controlled...set the offense and very little push and fast break. Not sure. All I can say is I loved the fast paced offense and players like Douglas tossing Oops. Forget which game it was (found it...was against Indiana) but I remember Douglas making a pass down court like snapping a football. Thompson caught it and off course dunked. As everyone probably remembers it was unbelievable.

I don’t think that timing of 10-15 years is coincidental btw

Got to be contrarian... That 1995 squad with Jackson, Moten, etc... was plenty athletic. They had Arkansas beat in that NCAA game, and that razerback squad was vintage "40 minutes of hell"...

there were some bad team chemistry issues with Lydon and the rest of the team

Rosie is coming this summer to work with Jesse...he said as much during the Houston game. He was one of the legends part of the sumulcast for that game. Furthermore it was obvious the others (DC, Billy, Moten, JW) in the simulcast feel a big man needs to coach the big men.

Sherm was on that Twitch watch party during the HOU game and said he heard from a reliable source that Kadary was transferring, his source was right

and Blackwell who attends practice on occasion and was on the other game watch said he heard at the very beginning of the year Kadary was leaving.
