Shirt World On Marshall St...

I CAN speak from 1st hand experience. Things on sales racks are rung up at different prices than advertised. Much of the stuff has no price on it. He rings up prices on a calculator, not a cash register that prints out SKUs and price per item. He's a scumbag.
Yes, his POS system is a real piece of s h ! t.

Or really good... "I think they can afford $xxx... ." ;)

I only went into that shop twice. Once it was a buy a T-Shirt get one free from a limited selection. The shirts were very poor, hence I opted out.

Another time I may have bought one item. That was it.

Took my Wife to Outback for Valentines. They way over cooked her steak she ordered medium rare and it was completly burnt. They took it back and said her meal would be Free. When I got the Bill they charged us twice for her meal and took one of them off to make it look like they gave her a free meal. The Marine came out of me really quickly!! We didn't pay for the meal after that. Just another place I'm not alowed to ever go into again in my town that sells Booz!
Semper Fi Jarhead.. I'll have to find me a name like that. My name is Dick.. Any Sugestions ?

Dave was a scam artist when I was on the hill, not sure if he found God and became a good person but i'll choose love here and say no more. Best of luck to the next business in that spot. Maybe 44's reopens there

I don't think I ever bought anything from Shirt World during my time there or when visiting (if I remember correctly, I actually think I got most stuff from the campus store), but I can definitely say that when you are dealing with 1) college kids and 2) parents of college kids that are there for short stints when buying things just like a shirt or what not, they may not be scrutinizing every receipt.

Again, I can't speak from first hand experience, but you have to remember (and this is no shade at anyone to be clear) there are a lot of kids up there that can drop money like it's not a huge deal to buy a shirt or what not and not worry about the price tag, so it's not worth their time to worry.

But there are a number of businesses that assume a leveraged hand because they are dealing with young kids (whether it be the companies leasing apartments or how bars used to deal with underage kids, etc).

I graduated in December 1995, so I only needed a place for the first semester that year- finding that in the mid-90s was next to impossible. Two guys in the same boat and I managed to find a furnished place with a ridiculous security fee that we were promised we'd get back at the end of the semester. December came, we talked to the owner about how we'd get that back - he hand waved that he'd mail it to us (which was going to be hard as he had none of our permanent addresses).

We saw the way this was going and had a yard sale that weekend, where everything went - couches, beds, lamps, TV...it was a fully unfurnished apartment after that weekend. We didn't quite get back the full security fee, and sleeping on a sleeping bag the last week wasn't ideal - but I'm still proud of how my two roommates and I handled that situation.

Screw that guy, I hope he burns in hell for eternity. And all the folks who make their money ripping off college kids.

Yeah. The security deposit stuff was bullshit with a lot of places.

Oh no. Making money from a tenant. The horrors.
Yeah. When a guy has made a living screwing over others through unscrupulous business practices, him going out of business rings hollow when he'll still make money off of the business that replaces him.

Did I miss something? “Going out of business” generally means the business was not a viable entity anymore. This sounds more like he’s going from one profitable retail business to a (likely) much more profitable business as a landowner.

With how much land has increased in value over inflation since 1976, this borders on a “no-brainer” decision. Unless there’s more details that he admitted he was losing money, there’s absolutely no reason to assume that (and lot$ of rea$on$ not to…)

Probably bad wording. Shirt world is closing. He's not going out of business.

I got precisely this vibe, too. Didn't quite pick up on it the first time I bought some gear there. Price seemed about $25-30 more than I expected, but I didn't notice until I got to the car, and noticed no details on the receipt. It was like from an old adding machine print out, FFS.

Second time I went, I had forgotten about my first experience, as it was a couple years later. And I wanted to like the guy, I was in HS when he was the SU kicker.

And then when he pulled the switcheroo on sale items that second time I came in, it brought back memories of the first time when he ripped me off with his made up prices and non-receipt,

So, I decided that was going to be the last time. But you don't cause a scene in front of your family, so I put back the sale stuff he said wasn't actually on sale. I wound up still overpaying on the 2 or 3 things I really wanted to get.

Shtt bag of a guy. He should sell aluminum siding. I hope they condemn his damn building. It's an eyesore. I've had commercial tenants in some of his buildings where we had to sue him (I think he owns 2 or 3 on that corner of Marshall), just to take care of the place, and not go into their stores when they weren't around. Just a basically dishonest guy, all around.

Not surprised. He still owes a friend of mine a paycheck from college days. He’s ripped off thousands of people. I’ll miss taunting him as I walk by and go into manny’s instead. I purposefully bought more from manny’s just to spite him.

Went to shirt world after the basketball game yesterday. Not my idea. Anyway we were greeted inside by whom I would guess was Dave’s wife. She said that this was their last business day, up to 80% off! Well, nothing had changed. I couldn’t find anything 80% off. I did find many items with 2 price tags on them, many items with no price tags, lots of stuff not reduced at all, and Dave using a calculator behind the cash. One of my friends said that Kohls was cheaper. Lol. Good riddance

Matt Park just said Dave Jacobs is helping out the kickers after Kennedy made that FG!
