One of my bosses was recently diagnosed with Cancer, and his brother made some calls on his behalf - JB took time recently out of his busy schedule to contact him and show his support and encouragement.
'Last week I called 2 buddies Gerry McNamara and Mike Hopkins (SU Basketball Coaches) to see if Coach Jim Boeheim would send Kris a message to brighten his day. Gerry and Mike said they would do better than that and would have Coach B. give Kris a call. We met everyone a few years ago at the Coaches for Cancer Golf Tourney in New Jersey at our other Great Friend Greg Dion's Golf Tourney. I bet you can guess who WON that Tournament that year and every year since then.
I thought a message from Coach B. who is a Cancer Survivor and also one of the Winning Most Coaches in College Basketball. Coach dealt with it and HIT head on and BEAT it.
For those of you that do not follow College Basketball, SU is ranked #1 in the Country for the 5th week in a row. Needless to say they are VERY BUSY right now and 17 - 0. Well, today Kris got the call from Coach B. and they talked about his condition, Basketball and Golf.
Thank You to Gerry, Mike and Coach B. you guys are the BEST.'

Heartwarming! I know someone whose daughter was getting chemotherapy. Boeheim was shooting a promo at the facility and at the mom's shy request went into the room and talked to her daughter for several minutes. I am pretty sure he does this as naturally as breathing. A very good, although at times crabby, man.

That does not surprise me. JB reaches out to many people with cancer ... including some on this board. He is very generous with his time when he thinks it may help others.

I know coach hopkins and gmac have participated in our vendor tourney in past years, but to me it was a great thing to see that they would take the time to follow through on this. I know my bosses were very appreciative that they took the time to do this, especially in mid season. Great character and individuals ... no doubt about it, class all the way.

In the final analysis, JB's biggest impact on the world might be his tireless efforts fighting cancer than his work coaching basketball teams. If there was a Hall of Fame for people for their efforts fighting horrible diseases, JB would be in that one too.
