Siena Basketball: GMAC / Blackwell / AO

What is so nice is the winning culture and can do attitude Gerry has built at Siena.
And I loved how he recognized that there could be a letdown after Fridays overtime loss so he made them play pressing defense from the start .

Gerry really thinks about how to adapt to every changing situation.
That’s what good coaches can do.

I don't feel like looking...
Any since Scoop and Waiters??
Lonnie Walker
Isaiah Wong
Ja'Quan Newton
Wooga Poplar
Jalil Bethea all wound up at Miami with Larranaga and his Philly assistants.
This drove me crazy that these kids wound up at that hoops wasteland playing before 3000 people. I am sure Heat culture exists but as a former Dade County resident, admittedly 40 years ago, none exists in the community.

End of rant!!

They not only don’t have a point guard, they don’t really have a big man at all. Mulvey isn’t an answer, their center, 6’10” Goodrick has been out for the season since December. They are playing a bunch of guards, small forwards. Folefac, the 6’7” freshman, 6’6” Chandler and 6’5” sophomore Doty are their “big men”.
Guess I motivated Mulvey. 😀

Yep it's these minute details that seperate coaches. My money is on him being a great coach down the road.

My fear is if that is the case, if they go alumni route now and it fails I would be surprised if they did it again. Would mean Gmac never gets a shot here.

His time could come in the future but if they continue with a string of alumni failures I think the well will be poisoned for him even if he turns out great.

I don't see if they go with an alum it would anyone else but Gerry.

I see a scenario where GMac is successful over the next 10 years and eventually ends up back here as HC. Maybe maybe not, but I don't understand why there are such extremes and absolutes.

as much as my money is on Gerry to be a successful HC this program needs a reboot.

Its crazy when you realize how little that program matters in miami.

Who could be the next alum coach if not Gerry?

From another thread, the Lallys are apparently throwing their support around Hop,
And he appears to really want the job.

In the same thread, insiders claim that Gerry has made it known that he doesnt want the SU job now.

Aside from his current situation, I'd guess Gerry would defer if he knows Hop wants it.

Gerry is in a really good situation with Siena.
They love him there, his players love him and he has a good chance to take them to their first NCAAT appearance since 2010.
Great situation for a first time head coach.
I think he could handle the SU job even with the horrific state the team is in but I don't think he wants to step on Red's grave or go against Hop and Melo who clearly want Hop to get the job.
It is just too messy a situation, too much darn drama.
I have no doubt that he will get the chance to be the SU coach one day - just not now.
