I was flipping between the Dodger game and the nfl, and was kind of hoping for Dodger walk off win, the perfect way for Vin to go out.

Perfect - not only made it about the team and the win, but in the proper context: winning the division (not 'going to the playoffs' or some other silly thing).

Classic Vin.

Vin Scully began broadcasting the Dodgers games in 1950. Bob Sheppard began his run as the PA announcer at Yankee Stadium in 1951. Vin pre-dates Bob Sheppard.

Vin Scully began broadcasting Dodgers games in 1950, the year Connie Mack ended his 50 year tenure as manager of the Philadelphia Athletics. Connie Mack was born in 1862, during the Civil War.

Even though I don't listen to Dodger broadcasts it was always comforting that he was still there doing them. A true link to the past because he was always part of the present.

As one who dislikes the Dodgers I would still tune those games in when he was announcing, just for the pleasure of listening to him.
