Honestly, beating Clemson I think got a bit of ego into some of the Orange (football team) heads, and thinking that the rest of the year is going to go well. I am hoping they learn and get going on fixing stupid mistakes like penalties which kills an offense or defense likewise. With that in mind, we all know some other things needs to be addressed, but I'm betting it may be a better performance than last week at Duke, which I think was a winnable game, and should have been alot closer in spread.

Don't disagree, but thats been about every year other than 2-3 in the last 10+ I can remember when they were not injured at least once. McCord was great, but too bad it wasn't for more than a year. I think we will do better at SMU as Duke was a kick in the butt some needed to get out of the midset that winning over Clemson gave them thinking there unbeatable.

Along those lines... as much as I am disappointed by Saturday, and wrapping my head around Rickie Collins likely [based upon that performance] not being a guy who can sustain the offense we saw under McCord / Angeli, 2025 will likely be a struggle that dampens some of Fran's attractiveness to other programs.

No, it is realistic.

I love Fran, and hope we can retain him. I'd like to take coaches at their word, but we have seen evidence in the past where things change. Such as when Doug Marrone proclaimed SU to be his dream job, only to have the burden of being behind in the facilities arms race sour his opinion. Change is constant, and the landscape is always shifting -- so I take what somebody said in 2023 with a grain of salt, hoping that it holds up but not blind to the fact that things can [and often do] change.

Fran is one of the hottest commodities out there. He is sure to garner interest. Whether he acts on that interest is another matter. But things are what they are, until things change. Maybe he'd be motivated by a $4-5M annual salary somewhere else. Maybe he wants to get back down south to a warmer climate. Maybe he'd be motivated by being in arguably the "best" conference, down in the SEC. Maybe he aspires to coach at a blue chip program.

Or maybe he is good where he is, close to his home state, in the Northeast. Time will tell.

My opinion only, but if Fran stays, he could be a legend here. He'll not only bring us back and put us in playoff contention, but also have his accomplishments appreciated here differently than at a blue chip program. If he goes to Arkansas [just for example], they'll have limited patience. If he goes to Florida [again, just for example] or Penn State, they'll always compare him to past glory. If he has success here, they'll build him a statue.

But don't tell me that its a "loser mindset" because you'd like to pretend that there isn't a risk of him leaving for another program, for a variety of potential reasons.
