SMU Postgame

Doesn’t matter anyway, we’re not winning the next 2. I could see us giving UNC a game at home if Wilson is out. I’d be shocked if we stayed within 15 points of Duke.

Probably not. It sets up as well as you could ask with some momentum, short turn around so both teams have limited prep and just to go play and Duke has Michigan 5 days later in 1 seed battle so the opportunity is there even if expectations are most of us have little doubt it’s a double digit loss.

17-11 with wins against Tennessee, Duke, UNC and SMU absolutely gets us in the conversation. Not saying we’d be like next 4 out, but we wouldn’t be too far off.
No, I don’t think it would. I think we’d have to win out to be in the conversation.

It probably is. Bumps to 3 quad 1 wins mid to low 50s net. I’d say like near next 4 out. Ultimately to be on the bubble have to win out going into ACCT and that wouldn’t be a guarantee even if it happened.
I definitely agree with the second sentence. I think it depends on what we mean by “in the conversation.” If it means “on the bubble,” then no. If it means “not mathematically eliminated” then maybe.

I thought his FT miss on the front end of a 1-and-1 was going to kill us. He made up for it and then some.
Someone the team should do their best to retain next year (pending eligibility). Realistically, who on the current roster has the best chance of staying, even with a new coach?

This was simply a great gutcheck effort.

It felt like they were killing us off the glass, but we boarded better in the second half.

What a difference when George only gets two TOs.

Kiyan and Betsy both really came on in the second half. Great job by Tyler keeping it together after a really rough start, and he did a nice job crashing glass with 5 boards. I gotta confess that Kiyan had such a quiet first half that I said to myself what the heck is Red doing giving him all those minutes, but I was proved wrong in those thoughts. Great job by Kiyan in picking his spots in the second half.

Funny how things work out, I thought Kingz might be the game goat after he missed the front end and then he comes back and plays hero ball when it counted.

I was surprised we went away from Donnie so much in the second half, but he did a great job in keeping them honest and opening up opportunities for others.

Red pushed all the right buttons in this game !!!!

Kiyan had the stats in the second half, but his first half was excellent. He was patient, didn't force his offense, didn't chuck up shots, and let the game to come him. And the game did come to him in the second half and he took advantage BUT his first-half patience set the tone.

When I talk about tough coaching from Red earlier in the year on Kiyan it was this. You need to get him to stop coming in and chucking up shots play within the flow of the game and let it come to him. If I was coach, if Kiyan came in chucking, he would go to the bench. Have a little chat with him and try him again.
Sometimes you need to run up and down the floor a few times. Get a sweat going and find the rhythm.

One last thought I had, SMU is a very talented team. Enfield did an AWFUL job with substitutions and personnel. That's a top 25 roster all day. I was not impressed with his coaching.

Correct, go get a rebound. Pass the ball around. Celebrate a bucket with a teammate. Get knocked on the ground. etc Get into the flow of the game. 90% of the time he comes into the game the first time he touches the ball he launches a shot. It isn't the correct way to play the game especially coming off the bench.

Andy Enfield deserved this major doming.
That's what he gets for having an ex-supermodel as his wife.

(photo is a few years old)

He was the Dunk City coach at FGCU that knocked the hated Hoyas out of the NCAAs. He's not all bad.
