am i the only one who doesnt HATE axe? I actaully really like him and appreciate him. hes perfect for Syracuse IMO. and I am including his radio show and recaps.

We are also super lucky to have Mike and Donna for hoops too. and chris carlson. call me crazy.

I think he's fine. Maybe a little quirky, but a lot of people have not got over the fact that they think he helped push Coach P out.

I'm not huge on Axe. Not sure he has much insight the casual fan wouldn't have, but I guess that's a big part of his audience in both talk radio and his columns.

I agree about Mike and Donna. People can talk about how they don't challenge JB at press conferences, but he cuts people off if he gets a question he doesn't like.

I like Chris Carlson also - he seems to be back on more sports stories now. His doesn't phone his stories in. They seem to be well researched and thought out.

It’s really hard to go from the kind of knowledge and insight Split Zone Duo brings to then reading or listening to whatever local beat writer is pushing out. I don’t know that I gain much reading any of the local beat writers that I haven’t already figured out from social media or this forum. It would be nice if the local writers transitioned from just story writing and recaps to also include analytical assessments of different facets of team performance that is increasing or decreasing effectiveness. That’s what’s really missing. The narratives just come off like knee jerk opinions because none of the local writers actually provide evidence or data to support their assertions and narratives.

Yeah I think most understand his role but many just think he is not very good at it. He's a hack in my book. The good ones in this area tend to move on to bigger and better.

That I agree with. I have always said I believe he picks up the USA Today and just reads the headlines of the big sports stories of the day and that is the depth of his insight on topics and how he runs a show. Why I haven't listened in years. Seems like a nice enough guy, but just bad at his job.

But the original point is nobody in the local media should be an ambassador for the program. They don't need to carry water or write/talk positively about the sports programs at SU.
