Some Random Nuggets

If there's one thing that Marrone and GRob have in common (some hearts probably just stopped), it's that both of them aged in dog years after taking the SU job. When Marrone got the job he just looked fairly young, eager, energetic. 3 years later he looks and sounds like an older relative of that once eager coach, a relative who's been battling alcoholism and depression for about 10 years.

On the physical and mental side, HCDM moving toward his expiration date. Even if a huge success, he ll never last long term without changes.

I don't care about the various rumors, but I'm increasingly concerned about Marrone's frame of mind. Sadly I think he has become the head coaching version of Cameron Frye, meaning he's so uptight that if you shoved a lump of coal up his ass in 2 weeks you'd have a diamond.

Tend to agree with this. Having been anointed the savior of SU Football doesn't help alleviate the pressure any...

Lyn's attitude makes me sick. Kid has so much athletic ability and is so gifted but says things like that. Going to be a young DB next year and could use his talents. BUT, I'd still rather have kids who want to win than kids who out right say they want to lose.

I'd keep him. As there is a chance that someone can get through to him. Floyd Little, perhaps?

Basing a lot on that Keon Lyn rumor, are we? Maybe he was in pain from his injury that needed surgery and didn't want to keep playing with an injury? I didn't hear about that at all. Lyn did not get sent home for that reason, I've stated before he got into it with a coach and it required a meeting with Doug who sent him home.

Can confirm that Desir, Eskridge, and George will be studs in our secondary in two years, if not next year.

So Keon told you this personally? Here comes the gossip from the board drama queen. I don't believe that to be the case. As you have been harping on since the end of the season, let's let Dougie make all of the personnel decisions since he's certainly more privy to what's going on than you or I. And he certainly needs to be held accountable for not only the incoming recruiting class but also who should be asked back.

All I know is what I was told from someone within the program and it pretty much matches what I read here, I will trust the source and you would too. Of course, it is Doug's decision but if it were me, I would ask the kid not to come back. And where was I dramatic with the post, do you think Lyn ws sent home for using the wrong fork? There is some serious smoke there, I don't think people who feel that Lyn's behavior toward the end of the season was less than desrieable are really reaching but go ahead keep apologizing for it

Yes, he did get into with a coach for his attitude and Marrone had had enough, doesn't sound like the type of kid that I would want on my team. Lyn is not Mike Williams here people, we can manage without him. I love how Lyn getting sent home is being treated as a ho hum experience, not a big deal for a player who had been warned repeatedley. In pain? who isn't come game 12, you either play or you don't but you don't try and sabotage the teams chances with a horrendous attitude, you are a scholarship athlete for christ sake, grow up and act like it

What exactly should a coach look like after a five-game losing streak? At 5-2 after the WVU win nobody was criticizing him. As a matter of fact, everyone was jumping on his merry bandwagon. Wouldn't Doug have been bashed if he giggled his way through the end of the season?

Battling alcoholism? Aren't we being a bit dramatic here?

You really read that as me suggesting Doug was battling alcoholism?

But the 20 years and depression were ok?

#1- never name your source while posting on an internet fan board.

#2- most of the 1960 team, fresh off a NC, didn't want to play in the Liberty Bowl.

Wasn't bashing him. Just agreed with the point that he looks like this job has aged him quickly. 'Tis the season for sensitivity...apparently.

I didn't realize that the pinstripe was a national championship game, this program should want to play in any bowl game, anywhere, anytime

We need a premium board. Like Yesterday. The stuff on Lyn is embellished. Kid was deservingly sent home, but he also is a competitor and a kid that plays his heart out. He's a kid that is learning how to grow up, it happened to us all when we were 19. I'll leave it at that.

We desperately need a premium board! Quite frankly I’ve started to read the board less and less due to the amount of crap that seems to be posted on here. I've never been a big poster however i do enjoying reading posts from many of you. I think the lack of a premium board has severely hurt everyone’s ability to post their information and opinions. The board has become more and more like Syracuse.com which has made it unbearable at times to read. Overall i think the Admins have done a great job moving the site from Scout. Just need to take it to the next level if it can be.

Not knowing every detail about this (nor do I really want to, need to, or deserve to), I would say that if he is asked to stay on the team, and he agrees to stay on the team, then this post will have best summed up the situation.

Since this was before my time, are you saying that the 1960 team turned down the Liberty Bowl and chose to stay home, only to get selected by the Liberty Bowl again in 1961?

As far as I can tell, Lyn will be back next year. I base my information on Twitter and nothing else.

I do get the feeling that getting away from campus and back with his family has straightened him out a bit.

Had lunch and made a Carousel Mall trip with my good friend who is a manager of the football team. I told yall I would try my best to get some information out of him, so I will share some of the things he told me.

  • Daoust, who he spent a lot of time helping, is apparently very well liked by the defensive line. He coaches a lot and has a big sense of humor with a lot of the players. He also coaches the long snappers on special teams as well. Was told that he was a very good coach to have.
  • The week of the Pitt game, there were certain players that didn't want to win that game. Was told that Lyn was making comments all week long about sending Pitt the game plan because if they won they would have to put up with another month for nothing but a crappy bowl game. My friend didn't know if that was part of the reason that he was sent home.
  • Marrone doesn't do a whole lot of coaching the offensive line according to my friend. He was really hands on when Adkins went out for surgery, but apparently he stayed away from the unit, which my friend was really surprised about.
  • My friend says Desir is a stud and was making plays all the time in practice. He said he would be surprised if Desir wasn't really involved next season.
  • One of the best things Hacket does (and my friend is NOT a Hacket fan) is relate to the players a lot better than HCDM. While we all know Doug runs a tight ship, NH is often the one who players go to. My friend used the word "codling".
  • Says that HCDM has no personality during practices. He thinks he needs to loosen up a bit. (I know that's his opinion but my friend said that Dough is just a very straight cut person)
  • Last piece I can remember was how the team does dinner. There is one table for the people who need to put on weight and one table for the people who need to maintain our lose. He referenced Max B who has been at the table of people who needs to gain weight for 2 seasons. He said Max B is too skinny for DEnd and has no hands for a TE. He also says that Donnie Simmons is REALLY fast and that he thinks he will be a starter at some point.
That's really all I can remember right now, if I remember something else, I will post it. I guess I should have taken notes while we were talking. I am always trying to get information out of him so if there's anything anyone wants to know, inbox me, and i'll make sure to ask when I see him tomorrow.

For a team that did not want to win at Pitt, the Orange certainly fooled me.

The team never quit and by the end of the game was pretty much beating up the Panthers.

Also, this manager needs to shut his mouth. I think I know who it is and let's be honest, a lot of the managers don't like Marrone because he demands things be done right, but that doesn't mean they should be airing dirty laundry that is exaggerated and paints certain players in a very negative light.

Encouraging news about Simmons. I think he will be a dynamic rush end or maybe he falls back as a 4th lb in a 3-4 setup if we go in that direction at some point.

If he is no longer a part of the program its his choice whether or not to speak about the program. Maybe he wasnt aware it was going to be posted on syracusefan.com. Some times tough news can be hard to take around here.

The Stuff about lyn is accurate to a certain extent, highly doubt he sent the game plan but I am sure his attitude was nothing short of crap. yet people will continue to talk about how we need him back? What for? As I have said, you don't get sent home from a road game for a pillow fight. Doug should get rid of Hackett and ratchet up the discipline, it's the only way. You can't waiver

He is still a kid.

And you hope that he matures.

I wouldn't give up on him just yet.

I have no problem with Hackett. From what I could see, the offense was fairly well-conceived. Just need better, stronger, faster players.

Agree 100%, people don't like to hear what was really going on but there is a lot to a 5 game meltdown to finish the season and like I said the story I heard was pretty similar minus the gameplan stuff, and the source was 100% solid, not he said she said stuff

From what I could see the Japanese offensive was fairly well conceived, just needed bigger, better, hotter, bombs. :D

No you work with what you have and either make it work for you or you lose. We lost. If the players can't execute the offense you're serving then you take it back and serve up something else. You are basically describing the Grob philosophy but with a different offense. I'll just plug these square pegs into these round holes, gimmie just a sec, think i almost...hang on...nope. Didn't work.

You come up with an offense that your current players can execute. I saw Temple and FIU in bowl games this year. Where was SU?

Sound like a kid with a dull axe.
