Some Random Nuggets

If he is no longer a part of the program its his choice whether or not to speak about the program. Maybe he wasnt aware it was going to be posted on syracusefan.com. Some times tough news can be hard to take around here.

This is board has had a negative impact on the program this year.

So a kid who fights with a coach before a game that decides bowl eligibility is "just a kid," but when a manager, who is probably just as old give or take a year or two, states what he saw he's got a dull axe?

No sure what your point is.

I was told the entire Lyn situation as well, and it wasn't that bad. To me I would compare it to all the rumors about the Red Sox that came out after the season, except with the Sox the source wasn't named. Very similar situations that were overblown. Because he isn't part of the program any more, can he release our playbook? Can he mention the trick plays we work on in practice? Loose lips sink ships.

For a team that did not want to win at Pitt, the Orange certainly fooled me.

The team never quit and by the end of the game was pretty much beating up the Panthers.
That was my impression as well. The defense, in particular, was playing with a lot of energy.

Well I am sure that some of the stuff is his own opinion but hes not out there releasing the playbook as you noted or what we worked on or practiced during the year. While the post would have been better in a premium environment I didnt hear anything earth shattering there. You have to take the good with teh bad on this board, nothing different then you or Knight posting some info you got from one of the players or someone close to the team.

Hopefully, if the coaches do read this site, this former manager won't need a character/job reference in the future.

I realize this but when the bad is embellished and makes a player look really bad it shouldn't be posted.

Thats part of the environment of college football in this day and age of the internet. Even Saban at Alabama took a shot at message board people at the beginning of the year. When your losing 5 straight and your offense cant get out of its own way, and your Linebackers fall for the same 3 plays the entire second half against Uconn against a QB that cant throw the ball and the entire stadium knows the play and hes still getting 15-20 yards a pop the boards not gonna be a great fun place to be. The issues with the program this year had less then 1% to due with this board and if anyone with the program is trying to place any blame on it then we are beyond hope.

Unfortunately thats going to happen when your involved in a negative issue and rumors start coming out. Lynn's actions/issue while not as bad as maybe the OP outlined were still a problem and an uneeded distraction. Lets see if he makes it back next year and the issues fade away.

From what I could see the Japanese offensive was fairly well conceived, just needed bigger, better, hotter, bombs. :D

No you work with what you have and either make it work for you or you lose. We lost. If the players can't execute the offense you're serving then you take it back and serve up something else. You are basically describing the Grob philosophy but with a different offense. I'll just plug these square pegs into these round holes, gimmie just a sec, think i almost...hang on...nope. Didn't work.

You come up with an offense that your current players can execute. I saw Temple and FIU in bowl games this year. Where was SU?

Great analogy - the surprise bombing of Pearl Harbor and the SU Football offense.

Brilliant.

The reference to Temple - a program that is in the fifth year of its re-building program at the MAC level is pointless.

And the reference to GRob, who tried four different offenses in four years, in an apparent effort to accomodate his talent, is also pointless.

The fact is that the offense this year worked with what it had. It did not have a break-out WR or a home-run threat at RB or a QB who could throw the ball all over the place or run the ball up and down the field. It played the way it had to play - control the ball, accumulate yardage and use the clock.

Ugh.

It would be nice to have such impact, but I think you're giving the board just a wee bit too much credit. It's nearly 2012, you should probably focus on twitter, probably more damage done there than anywhere else. And that one will be much harder to overcome.

Oh BS. This board has 1700 users of which 1/2 are lurkers. So that's maybe 2% of attendance and a minuscule percentage of the total fan base. This board has nothing to do with who the coaches are, who they recruit, where they recruit, the workouts, the game plan, the play calling, who plays, who doesn't play, in game decisions like kicking on 4th and inches, etc...nada, zero, zilch. And if you mean negativity in general, pfft about that too. Every single board has negativity when things go to hell in a hand basket and even more so with the better programs. If you think this board had a negative impact on the program, then in reverse, you and some others had a major negative impact on the program under GRob. I think I even remember you posting something similar under P that the internet was a part of the problem. It's like deja vue. You forget, many of the people on this board are the very people who shell out their hard earned money for the program, attend games both home and away, and support the program in many other ways.

And the biggest issue with twitter and facebook are the players themselves.

100% Right, GO is offbase on this one.

Is there a shred of evidence that would suggest anything other than the most significant problem with this program...is the program??????

You really read that as me suggesting Doug was battling alcoholism?

But the 20 years and depression were ok?

No I just read it as an over-dramatic comparison.

the incident was the straw that broke the camel's back, the kid had been pitching a fit for the better part of 3-4 weeks since the loss to UCONN, there were several incidents. You can believe what you want, most coaches would have tossed the kid, he is lucky he is even being permitted back on the team. The incident at the Pitt game was not an isolated indicent. I would have tossed him, those blaming marrone here, are crazy. I still don't believe Lyn will make it to the field next year, he is worse than Mike Williams and 1/4 the player

Sooooo . . . no one else excited about Simmons stepping in?
More excited for Micah Robinson. He can be a 3 down DE, not just a pass rusher like Simmons. I don't know how well Simmons will do against the run with a 300 lb tackle blocking him.

Agreed, I think Simmons needs another year of S&C to be a 3 down DE, he could possibly be a pass rush specialist next year but don't see him being quite there yet

Don't like analogies fine. My point is that everything looks good in theory including Hackett's offense. But if you can't execute it then it doesn't work. That simple enough for you without making comparisons?

Grob's dog and pony show of switching the formation did not change the core of the offense which was West Coast principles. I don't care of we lined up in the pistol, under center, or whatever. Fact is it was an offense predicated on ball control, accumulating small chunks of yardage, and using up the clock. Wait a minute...Yes DM is running another NFL offense and it sucks. Building an offense for our players? YEAH THATS IT! The only difference between DMs offense and Grob's offense is that Grob thought the pass could setup the run, DM thinks the run can setup the pass. Reality is that if you don't have an accurate QB who can deliver catchable balls then you don't try to setup the pass, nor do you use the pass to setup anything else. Cause regardless which one you try that in one unbalanced equation and doomed for failure. If you can't pass then don't do it. Nassib holds the single season record for passing attempts and we finished dead last in the BE. 66th in passing ypg, 84th in team scoring. Something doesn't add up. I'm gonna repeat that...84TH!

You're right we didn't have a breakout WR, didn't have a QB with any touch, didn't have an OL that could block very well so let's play a PRO STYLE offense which is designed for guys who can do all those things in the NFL. There's your stroke of genius! Brilliant I say!

With our subpar QB and WR play this year we had no business in any kind of passing offense. We also didn't have a Delone Carter to push up the middle 30 times a game. So what do you do? You run a college offense based on deception, misdirection, and running. Many of us call it an option style offense. There are many to choose from.

We forced a pro style offense on a bunch of kids who don't have pro skill sets and it resulted in a horrible offense that was supposed to carry a younger, inexperienced defense. It didn't happen and this horrendous season is the result. Barely getting wins over FCS and Mac opponents, and getting stomped in the worst BCS conference in the country.

Yeah, ugh is right.
