Something Has To Change..

We could afford this if we didn't spend major NIL on 20+ non-productive freshmen every year (make that about 40 non-productive freshmen/sophomores on the current roster). When you're cash strapped the bottom half of your roster has to cost $0. We are getting good production from 2-3 freshmen per year and the rest are dead cap space.

2024 our roster was 44% juniors and seniors. 2025 it was 34%. We are playing boys vs other team's men. Even with portal guys added, our 2026 number is going to be close to 34% again. Can't win with 2/3 of your roster being underclassmen. 2025 UVA had over 60% of their roster as upperclassmen due to the portal.

We only have 7 guys left from the 2024 recruiting class of 26 players. We're not keeping a high enough % of the HS guys for building through HS to work. We paid Ross, Hornsby, etc. to develop and produce nothing for us, now that they are ready to produce as juniors they will be playing for someone else.

How many potential G5 all conference junior/senior starters is Calvin Russell alone costing us? 2? 3? He better be worth it right away as a freshman.

Fran is a good dude but he's high school recruiting as if he has UGA resources. Wildhack really should have hired someone who had success at a small school on a very limited budget. Even if we get the X's and O's right this year Fran could still fail due to lack of roster construction experience.

At which point I don't need two pro football leagues and I will just enjoy the NFL. If Syracuse drops down to a regional league and there is no longer any Nil insanity, I will keep my season tickets.
It will be interesting to see how many season ticket holders stay on if that happens.

I'm loving the parity. Miami, Oregon, Ole Miss and Indiana in the Final Four? Two schools that have never won a championship, Miami's been asleep for most of the last 25 years and Ole Miss hasn't won anything since the 60s.
good valid point, but believe the point he's making is we will not and can not be any of those teams either who are spending like it's going out of style to get there. Way more than we do or have is the point. Someone correct me if that's innaccurate.

I’ll admit that I’m completely hypocritical. I want SU to find any and all boosters who will give them money to attract and retain good athletes. Because I selfishly want to watch a winning team.

At the same time, I ain’t gonna be that booster. When I give money to SU it’s to support their academic mission.

I don’t judge anyone who wants to give to their money to SU’s NIL. Most of those people also donate to incredibly good causes. I’m thrilled some people give to SU sports because it helps my enjoyment of a pastime. I just won’t do it.

Just like I won’t give Bob Kraft money to give Drake Maye a contract extension. I’ll buy tickets & merch, and I’ll watch the games on TV driving up the value of media rights. But I’m not cutting Kraft a check outside of his other revenue streams. The college NIL model seems batspit crazy to me.
If I was a big donor, I’d rather put my name on a building versus watch my donation get lost in the ethos of a 105 player team. But I’m selfish, so there’s that

Nailed it Mike.

Yep. The game on the field is better all things considered. No more powerhouses stockpiling 3 deeps.

Off the field CFB is a disgusting mess.

I'd like to assume that at some point the market is going to come crashing down. Some of these schools are going to have massive payrolls and not have much to show for it.

I would think somewhere down the line the tax man comes, and starts auditing some of these rich cats as to how they are spending the money. And what kind of writeoff are they using.

I doubt SU will still be playing football. The Syracuse area won’t support a watered down version of football and the university won’t be able to keep the Dome in business. You’d be looking at crowds of less than 15k.

Oklahoma St QB getting $7.5M over 2 years. Was a walkon last year. The whole NIL was donated by a single person.
I’m going to guess 3500 yards, 28 tds and 10 picks. A decent to really good year but still not worth 3.75M

if only NY won the geographic lottery being on a top of oil fields. The money in the SEC is insane and most of it is generational.
Is the SEC money that great? The TEXAS money is great. Indiana is richer than I had any clue they were. Vanderbilt money is probably pretty great. And Oregon is never going to lack for resources. But I've seen some articles that a lot of the SEC schools are struggling more than you'd expect. The local Birmingham Chevy dealer is great for a lease and a handful of hundreds in an envelope, but can he compete with Mark Cuban or Texas oil money?

well obviously Texas money is insane, and that applies to Oklahoma too.

The rest of the SEC is more about generational wealth/old money vs. new. But those alumni bases are massive that anyone with money went to those schools and even if you didn't go there, if you had money, you were still a fan. So the supporters are just everyone. And even in a poor state like Arkansas, the richest people still support the local U. See Tyson family.
