something is very wrong......

Xanders' strength is definitely not in writing. His strength is marketing. I've been critical of his lack of coverage of HS lacrosse in the spring, but it's obvious that summer and fall tournaments will help him travel to attend the tournament, and HS teams won't do that, so he doesn't cover HS games outside the MD/DC/VA area. And he really doesn't cover much of them either. There are a ton of good HS teams playing on the east coast multiple times each week for 3 months each spring, but it hardly gets covered. But lucky for us he keeps putting out his weekly top 25 of the same HS teams adjusted by a couple positions based on their recent results. :eyeroll:

IL and Xanders have their merits but too much stock is given to rankings by a commercial outlet that does not have the manpower or resources for wide coverage. Many parents pay to have their kids travel to showcase but many more do not. IL does tend to hit on the top twenty five or so right as their abilities and separation from pack is clear to most eyes. These players are the lottery picks in basketball and top five picks in baseball drafts but beyond that there is much depth of talent in the sport that can be uncovered and developed whether ranked or not. Some of the ranked will disappoint while some relative unknowns will surprise and become potential AA's .

Place value in having former alumni with discerning eyes watching local games during the regular hs season .Serve as field scouts who identify and refer players and atheletes for looks. In addition , schools and clubs possess better knowledge of their own so expanding networks into them can be as important as attending showcases or holding prospect days imo.

Amazing how we win a single ACC game if you simply go off the ranks of the recruiting classes of others. Yes somethings are wrong but somethings are also right.
