Just don't take away the beer, and we'll all be ok...

Dear Season Ticket Holder:

In July 2015, Syracuse University enacted a tobacco-free campus policy covering all property owned, leased, or managed by the University. The policy was deferred for two years for the Carrier Dome, Drumlins, the Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel & Conference Center, and the Syracuse Stage/Drama Theater Complex. While these facilities have remained smoke-free inside, the use of tobacco products outside the spaces has been allowed.

Effective July 1, 2017, these facilities now follow the rest of the Syracuse University campus in becoming completely smoke- and tobacco-free venues. This is a move that ensures the Carrier Dome and other facilities offer a safe, healthy, and respectful environment for all our guests and staff.

The new policy is applicable to both inside and outside the Carrier Dome, as well as in all on-campus parking areas. The policy covers all tobacco products, including cigarettes, cigars, snuff, pipes, chewing tobacco, and products that imitate the act of smoking, such as vapor cigarettes.

Also, in association with the new policy, the Carrier Dome will discontinue the practice by which a guest could have their ticket scanned “out” by a ticket taker in order to exit the Carrier Dome and then scanned back “in” for re-entry.

Consistent with the Atlantic Coast Conference and other sport venues, Carrier Dome patrons (both smokers and non-smokers) will no longer be allowed to leave and re-enter the facility during an event.

The University is providing this information now to make sure you and others who enjoy attending Carrier Dome events have ample notice about these forthcoming changes.

For more information on Syracuse University’s tobacco-free campus initiative, visit wellness.syr.edu/tobacco-free.

Thank you for your continued patronage. As always, if you have any questions about this policy or other matters involving the Carrier Dome, please contact the Carrier Dome Box Office at 1-888-DOME-TIX.

Sincerely,

"How can we get even less people to come to the Dome"

Let alone the fact that I hate that smokers are discriminated against. Giving them a separate area to smoke is one thing. Not letting them smoke at all is another.

Also, not letting people leave and come back in. That is grade A stupidity. Get ready for more empty seats, particularly in the second half of games.

Discriminated against?

Oh no people *might* get exposed to second hand smoke.

Better get rid of all those buses that bring peoples to the game too.

Syracuse University has a much better argument for getting rid of beer (they won't and never will) than banning people from smoking OUTSIDE lol

if this keeps people from going to games, then those people have more problems that what they are putting in their body. You can hold your cravings for a few hours and or have a few in your car before entering the area

The comment you quoted wasn't about the smoking thing. It was about being able to leave and come back in.

yes its a bad habit that won't go away, mostly people who were teens in the 70s and 80s mostly

Well yeah.

But they're greedy.

that seems like an acc policy/all sports policy more than a syracuse only policy. All sporting events i have ever went to its no re entry

The policy is crap and everyone knows it lol. Was the ACC not going to let us in if we didn't ban smoking outside + re entry? No. We didn't have to stop selling booze. In fact they sell more now then they did in 2013

You'd be wrong. I left and went back in at Wake Forest, NC State, Syracuse, UVA. Unless they just changed it. Which would be stupid. Again, people want to go to their cars to eat/drink/smoke at halftime and come back in. With this new policy they either won't show up at all or not come back into the games. Either way it's stupid.

in the opening post seems like an acc policy change then.

Other schools have been jumping on the selling booze at games bandwagon over the last ten or so years. Why wouldn't there be booze available at a for-profit sporting event. Oh, yeah. They want to continue to act like it's non-profit while signing Billion dollar TV deals so they dont have to pay the athletes. Screw the NCAA and all they pretend to stand for.
