Spring Practice #12: Sat. April 6, 2019 Closed to Media

This is what I got from the article:

1st team
Howard

2cnd Team
Jordan 3
Zaccardo 1
Guida 1
Welch/Johnson 1

1st team Def knows the offense inside out. Not concerned.
Love Howard delivering pain as the starter. Love the new speed from Jordan and we still have Moe and Abdul. Thats just sick talent. Still concerned about oline pass protection. People might need to be patient for that to line to gel. Year 2 with oline coach should start showing dividends but even in our great year last year I believe we gave up 37 sacks. Lots of room to get better from that number.

Moe and Adams will be 1 and 1A.

Agreed but Dino does not seem to have any issues spreading the ball around. Howard will continue to get touches in the red zone and if Jordan shows big play bursts I am positive he he will see the rock as well. Agree though that Abdul and Moe get starting touches.

Howard won’t be the starter.

He will be awesome on short yardage and wearing down defenses in the 4th quarter when we want the clock to keep going and we don’t mind slowing...

4 legit RB's. Practice reports say Abdul is ridiculous... Howard is a hammer, reads the Zone scheme exceptionally quick, and is strong enough to knock over the stragglers.

Oline pass pro should get sussed out in August. As you say, patience may be required, as they gel. Cav had the 2's account for 5TD's in the run game, so the depth is coming along nicely..

For those that haven't seen, Kendall and Alton were both tied for #8 in sacks, in the country. Complete MOFO's. We have the best. They'll be repping against fire, and that's a good thing.

Yup, this is why we got an experienced offensive line coach.

And I've been telling you all for a long time that Jordan is going to be a game breaker.

I agree. Jordan looks like an amazing talent. He is so fast, and like his Twitter handle says, he cuts on a dime. As long as our O Line comes together, I think he and Adams are going to be sensational.

Personally, I don't think he's shown all that much as a short-yardage specialist so far.

I think that early on, we should use Jordan as the change of pace guy. His speed against a tired defense is going to lead to a bunch of long runs.

He did lead the team last year in RB rushing TDs with 7.

Be honest. Did he move the pile, or was it Chris Elmore moving the pile?
I don't think he passed the "eye test" for me. I think Adams will be more effective at the goal line.

That's crazy.

He scored on 5 of his 14 first half attempts.

He had 6 carries on 3rd and 1 to 3 yds, 3 1st downs and 1 TD.

He was a true freshman.

On top of being the designated Power back he busted multiple big runs up the A gap.

Not sure what more you would want him to do.

Is your argument for Howard supposedly not passing the eye test in short yardage situations being that he followed his lead blocker too effectively? What an odd negative to subjectively proclaim about a runningback. I've never heard someone knock a runningback for his ability to follow his lead blocker too efficiently in short-yardage situations.

If you want to see him run over someone just watch his touchdown against Pitt where he lowered his shoulder and slammed through their safety (the safety's helmet was knocked off). He's pretty good at making people miss and delivering a big hit himself. He's got a good first cut and step but he lacks the finishing speed though.

It'll be interesting to see how he's used this year as he is more settled in the offense but competition for snaps will be fierce.

I heard it is possible someone might attempt to do a Periscope live stream. Heard that person is currently also looking for a spotter and a color person. Heck, a camera person would also be nice.

But that is only a rumor.
You, again? Hah! Greatly appreciated, last year.

Dunno why a few enterprising Newhouse students don't give it a go...

I think this is because Dino doesn't want it. I bet we are the only ACC school that doesn't televise their spring game.

When that UCLA playbook got in the wrong hands, his trust was lost, apparently forever.

I hope that the ACC Network will no longer leave that as an option.

If other schools cared, it's pretty easy to send someone up for the game . Seems like the far away fans are the ones getting hosed...

Yes, if history means anything, Dino is going to go pure vanilla here. But film on new players could, I guess be helpful, and he doesn't want to give any more help to other teams than he has to.

I wish this was not the case. The spring game is good publicity for the program and the fans from out of town get a slap in the face.

I almost think it's to protect players from chatter... Seriously, if other schools cared, they'd just send an intern...

1st 2 years were televised, yes? Willing to bet some recruits would like to watch it. With the vanilla play calling, this one is more of a head scratcher for me . Wants 20k in the stands?

If I were someone like Tyler Van Dyke or Christian Veilleux, I would be intensely interested in the spring games for all my finalist teams. How does Tommy look? How well suited is this offense to my skills? Do they have receivers I can pass to? Does the OL pass block? Is there a decent running game in place?

I love Dino Babers. But no coach is perfect. I can live with a coach who is a little paranoid, as long as he can win games.

Dino can win games.

I think he may be interested in the optics. They did a good job, this year, trying to get people to the spring game.

The LAST spring game in the current Dome.. Get yerr butt to the game.

No, the observation was that I remember a pretty good number of times that he didn't move the pile. Of those 7 TDs he scored, I'd like to know how many carries he had inside the 5 yard line. Or how many times we ran him in short yardage situations vs. whether he got the first down. Just my take on him. I think he's our 4th back.

Arizona playbook*
Yes this is why he is "secretive" with his practices, plays stuff close to the vest, and doesn't have a true playbook.
