Steve Angeli: Torn Achilles

Percent chance Miami and Tennessee and others looking for a starting QB are trying to tamper with Steve Angeli right now?

Help me here, but why is this thought in your head?
Because the top end QBs in the portal market are basically now off the board. Big money programs such as Miami and Tennessee could be getting desperate to get someone that is proven at this level. As much as people want to undermine what Steve was starting to do before he got hurt, he was looking like the real deal. Not saying we are at risk of losing Steve Angeli, just sending out a reminder that I just hope people realize how good and intriguing this QB room is right now.

hope not
Even if they are, I'm sure it's fun to tell the others to get lost. Tampering of Syracuse players under Fran Brown has been very constant based on Fran's pressers.

everyone notice how the majority of the plays were either calls where the ball was pushed down the field, or we used slants , and used the middle of the field . That’s where Nixon’s offensive looks amazing and excels. Once he went down they were forced to use 1 side of the field and typically from the boundary to the sideline because of fear of INT’s throwing it in the middle of the field , and trying to simplify the reads. I would just be showing our WR’s thinking to transfer this on replay to remember how efficient and well executed it was.
Good thing we avoided the middle of the field out of fear. I would have hated to see a bunch of interceptions and Pick 6's.

It would seem a very risky gamble to me.

I agree with this.

Not so sure I agree with this until we get that 2nd portal QB.

0. No one is going to pay out the nose for a guy coming off an Achilles injury. He may never be the same again. We can “take the risk” because we already got him
Zero percent, sure, but who said pay out through the nose? It was already said a while back by an insider that there was interest in Angeli by other teams but he was not interested.

He’s not going to leave unless he gets similar money and I dont see another team paying the likely 500k+ price tag to get a guy coming off an Achilles injury

That research article said that most guys have a highest risk of reinjury if they try to come back the next season (i.e., <1 year recovery). It said that after a year, athletes have a much better chance of approaching previous levels of athleticism and fitness.

That's why I said he might not be ready in August, which is 10 months from when he got hurt.

But football being football, you don't drop in a whole new QB in midseason unless you have to. So, I would bet that he comes back for August camp. I just hope he doesn't get hurt again, because it's a little too early for optimal recovery.

And yet teams were interested even knowing his injury.

The difference with Angeli is he's not a WR or CB who tore his achilles. WR/CBs are not going to be playable at 80-90% of their athletic ability. Angeli as a pocket QB. He showed the ability to run when he was on the field but he's not going to be asked to run and cut at 100%.

I've had a slightly less invasive Achilles surgery at 40+ years old. About six months to run normally. 10 months to be as good or better than pre-surgery. He's going to be on the field at spring practice throwing footballs. They'll bubble wrap him until game one but unless there's some complication, he should be good to go by the start of the season. It's just not an injury that impacts his ability to throw the football the way a knee injury would.

I appreciate your perspective on recovery. It's good to hear real stories from people who have gone through it.

You still need your Achilles for your throwing motion. I'm pretty sure it was his plant foot (right) that was injured.

I understand your concern but Steve isn't coming off a simple fracture...Achilles injuries are a long term process to get back to 100% ( assuming you can)

I know it’s a big difference with NFL treatment but Aaron Rogers returned in a relative short period of time.

I loved watching Rodgers final pass in career turn into a pick 6 with a weak missed tackle hahahaha

And he did not have the same mobility/running as he did before the injury, even 2 years after. I am sure some of that was due to age but i am comparing to late 30s Rodgers not 20-something Rodgers.

So Angeli had surgery September 22nd. 10 months from that date would be July 22, 2026. Just before fall camp. Per Dr Bill on our board recovery can be anywhere from 9 to 12 months. Presumably that is a window range for all people. If there's no complications in rehab, I would think that given his young age and what I would expect is the programmatic physical therapy regimen for a P4 program, he would be darn close to ready come camp. I think we will see him practicing wearing a yellow jersey come August and running on the field week 1 leading the team. Glass half full folks, we are due for some grace from the football gods.
