Stonehill postgame

The whistles, the whistles, the whistles! Is this happening in other ACC games? So tedious and makes it hard to drum up any energy at all.

But we beat the spread! I pray that Donnie coming back is the answer and that he doesn’t play tentatively because he doesn’t want to get injured again. Anyone know how Clemson is doing so far? Yes, I could look it up but I want someone else to. Thanks!
Clemson is quite volatile. Lost to Georgetown, and had an epic meltdown against BYU. They were up 20 and lost at the buzzer. The other night against Cincinnati they started the game with a 30-5 run and won by 3.

I said elsewhere that their resume is not that much different than ours besides the 60 spot difference in the net.

They dont have 3 giant farm boys playing in the front court anymore.

Yea we beat Stonehill by a decent margin.
But this awful free throw shooting is going to cost us several wins against ACC competition. You just can't leave that many points on the free throw line and win against teams with comparable talent.

Negativity, like missed FTs, seems to be contagious. The first half wasn’t spectacular and I was very disheartened after past 4 games, but they finally exceeded expectations due to a solid second half and started to look like the team we saw until post-Tennessee.

With Donnie coming back for Clemson, I still believe they can do some damage. Hope to see some more fans in the stands to help bring some energy to the dome!

Let's hope so!🍊🏀🍊

Blowout but completely unsatisfying. Stonehill is easily the worst team we’ve played this year.
-on the bright side, George seems to have regained his confidence and played well once again.
-second consecutive game Kiyan had no assists. How has that not been addressed by the coaches. He just gets the ball and it stops.
-the fact that we don’t cut to the basket or move without the ball is beyond frustrating to watch. It is so painful watching Kyle go one on one with his back to the basket and our other four guys just stand there. Speaking of which this was easily Kyle‘s worst game of the season and his least active.
-Souare feeling entitled enough to throw up a three pointer does not speak well of our culture. He simply is not good enough to play for Syracuse. He does nothing well, even the little things. He has one basket this entire year, but in a contested game decided to shoot a corner three which understandably and predictably did not draw iron.
-we have not played with anything approaching tenacity and intensity since the Tennessee game and that is pretty disheartening. It’s not an exaggeration to say that one of our old teams would’ve won this game by 60. Red looked particularly disheartened tonight. I wonder if he is at wits end and feeling the pressure.
Both Delaware State and Binghamton are worse

Just out of the top 25. I don't remember exactly but maybe 28 or 29th. It will be a test.

Just finished watching the game. Negatives — obviously FT shooting. Could keep us out of the tournament if it continues. Giving up offensive rebounds. Giving up open 3-pointers. Terrible game by Anthony. 4 points, 3 TOs. Betsey almost invisible. Positives — best defense in quite a while the last 15 minutes. George and Starling with more than half our points. Decent 3-point shooting for the team. Strong game by White other than FT shooting. We actually covered the spread.

Yes. It was a particular kind of frustrated.

Reminds me of when I put a pizza box in the fridge and the door doesn’t close, so I spend five minutes carefully rearranging things to make room, and then try and shut it only to find it’s even worse. Except it was on a loop for about 39 full minutes of play.

The metrics say that Binghamton and Delaware State are worse. But Stonehill is pretty bad too.

Haven’t read through the thread, if others mentioned, but glad Red gave the starters a lot of run to put them away. In the process he showed some discipline to guys like Souare and Anthony.

Furthermore, he didn’t put the fans through anguish, reflective of how few posts in this thread against a cupcake. Seems like Stonehill was flirting in that 8-12 point deficit range for a little bit. If the game would have ended in that margin, this thread would be a lot more active, LOL. Glad the move was made to let the starters do what they’re supposed to do against them.

Good win, hopefully get Freeman back, and get ready for the “real” season. I’m excited.

I have never seen Red as angry as he was when Souare shot that 3. Usually he keeps his emotions hidden. His reaction had me laughing because I felt the same way.

I think it was that play I was able to lip read "OH YOU SIT DOWN"

It was really odd, because Sauare doesn't even shoot when he is 2 feet from the basket. But, for some reason he thought it was a good idea to shoot a 3 pointer with his soccer throw-in form.

Lack of an offensive gameplan, spacing, off ball movement, and chemistry will be what kills us this year. The complete lack of off ball movement, no matter who is initiating with the ball is so damn painful. Devo was calling it out repeatedly. Others have said this already, but every iso in the lane is going to be a shot, even if other defenders help. That also goes for Kyle in the post. Nobody moves. We do not have any type of spacing in place to punish a team for doubling the ball in the lane. Others have used the phrase "zone offense" which is painfully accurate.

The complete lack of catch and shoot looks from range against a team like Stonehill is beyond insane. The only clean one we got was from freaking Souare. They had far better looks at open threes than we did throughout the game. Take away assists in transition, how many do we average in a game? Like 2?? I don't know if I have ever seen an off ball pick to free up one of our shooters from range, or anything similar to that. Red has not made a single change to this in three years. As much as I want him to succeed, he deserves to be canned over this crap. The personnel improvements are irrelevant if this is the offense.

I was so happy that Red got upset as he did. Very bizarre sequence where Souare had a nice block and rebound and felt he deserved to take that shot. Not sure if Red's outburst had anything to do with it, but we outscored them 30-13 after that.

Also, I think it was mentioned by someone (maybe Bulldog) after the last game, but Donnie seemed to be the most active as far as giving directions to the players as they came off during stoppages in play. More so then any of the actual assistant coaches. Possible future Big Man's coach?
