Students No Show

I’m with ya on not beating the students down

Their entitled to do whatever. If you want to show up great.

But it’s become very apparent that Syracuse overestimated how many sections to give the students.

That needs to be looked at and altered for next season
They sold all those empty seats as packages.

We were 5-2 with the bad loss to Pitt so it wasn't cool enough. 6-1 and ranked im sure half of those uppers that were empty are full.

The old model was better bc the sideline seats were guaranteed to be full and the overflow was for seats that don't typically sell for soft demand games. Now it's basically a guarantee that upper end zone will be empty if it's not the opener or the stars aren't aligned for a ranked team in November.

This was late in the game, and the point stands. It doesn’t look good. I just don’t know what can be done to finish this season.

Yeah, it was really hard to see no one in the seats that were stolen from me.

27 years I had those seats!
They had one chance to reorder the seating and get the students off the sidelines

They can adjust downward, but upward would have been another round of hurt feelings.

Flip side, those student seats are sold. The school obviously wants them there, but they made their money on them.

Plenty of other seats available at all our games besides Holy Cross. I don’t expect them to change anything for next season. Other than looking bad, there’s a lot of options for non-students to buy at any game they want for the most part.

Here is an idea. You let the students purchase the right to season tickets. But they still have to claim/order a ticket to each game at least 7 days before a game for a nominal additional fee but no more than 14 days ahead. If they don’t, they are released to the public for $20. So you can in effect, sell the same seat twice and fill the seats. And you make the students request the ticket and put down a few bucks which might force them to actually show up.

I’ll add this. With the Miron building opening and releasing that end of the dome of concourse crunch, those seats will be even more desirable for many….
There’s a lot of neat possibilities for Miron Court. I checked out the upper level yesterday and was amazed how large the space it. It would be amazing to do something similiar on the west end of the building. It would be great for basketball. If we ever get another NCAA tournament game at the Dome, the Miron Court could house all the media, thereby keeping the backcourt available for fans. To see how this facility has grown since it opened in 1980 is shocking. It doesn’t look like the original building.

Actually a pretty good idea

I like that

I was there at my alma mater Syracuse this weekend to enjoy homecoming and the VT game. The dome is shaping into an even more beautiful and enjoyable venue - especially for our 'CUSE! Still had the bathroom trough in the men's room but they will be gone by the end of the BBall season.
Had concerns but never wavered in the "new and improved" CUSE! Glad I was rewarded in my faith in the new staff but more importantly, in their philososphy of excellence as an expectation and it's execution as it's goal.
In Babers, I would have left at halftime and not bothered to endure the morning rains and cold. But Fran has brought a new dawn to Syracuse Football.
Feeling psyched to know that SU sports have top of the line coaches in men and women BBall and laccrosse, -Ball, soccer and track.......time for SU to resume its loathy place in college sports that will match its academic excellence!

I also took note of the empty student section in the upper seating - and given that the dome after 44 years has new seating with backs - it was obvious to tv viewers.
But for those there - the dome was loud on 3rd downs and scores........GO SYRACUSE, 'CUSE FOREVER!

didn't they sell a record amount of student tickets as well this year? so many of those seats were sold and they didn't bother to show?
ALL of those seats were sold and unused. Going back a few years the department found that the renewal rate among students dropped precipitously from freshman to soph, junior and senior years, To counteract that they instituted a program where an incoming freshman could pay for three years up front and essentially get the fourth free. At the time it was a savvy move to increase revenue with a surplus of inventory available. I asked about redemption rates - percentage of sold student tickets that are being regularly used and found this is certainly an issue. Tactically it really hasn't been an issue since we have yet to sell out a game with the new seating, but if the program continues on a positive trajectory something will need to be done. And I have been told there is a strong probability that things may be tweaked for the games bookending Thanksgiving if the demand is there.

Not sure I understand how they can do anything different for the remaining games. Do they send other season ticket holders to the student section and frustrate them by taking away their selected seats? The seats may not be assigned (not sure if true) but they are accounted for in terms of capacity/safety and all the other seats ARE assigned.
With the games bookending the Thanksgiving break they can certainly use data to project the number of unused tickets. They could even survey student ticketholder to determine how many empty seats will be available. Of course nothing matters unless there are buyers for any seats they free up.

You can't resell seats that are already paid for without some kind of written permission. Too many legal problems, it's too late to fix this year.

This.
Probably could consider something if they were selling out the seats that are available. Why take away student seating that is bought and paid for if there is not a high level of confidence that you can resell those seats at a higher price point?

I can tell you that if Syracuse feels there is demand there for those tickets, they have ways to get those seats back from the students.

Syracuse has known the students are on break since the schedule came out and have been planning multiple different scenarios since the release of the schedule, not just because attendance was extremely low yesterday

The upper endzone seats are all available to purchase for UConn and Miami on Ticketmaster

Halloween weekend = lots of parties + early start = students not yet awake for noon game.

Thank you for understanding 18-22 year olds.

I can't believe that so many posters don't understand that, for the normal college student, halloween parties are waaaay more important than any football game. Freakin' sodom and gomorrah weekend.

And there yah go, glad it’s out in the public now

It's actually been out there for awhile. I had been tracking Miami tickets since the beginning of the season because we might be using more than our 8.

I had assumed it was because the students didn't have tickets (due to break). This thread is the first I'm hearing that those games were part of their season tix.

Now let’s see everyone complaining about students not showing up yesterday convince 2-4 others to attend the last two home games and make a case for reallocating seats in the future!

Yup 100%

If you’re going to complain about the students not showing up, when you get a chance like this you have to show why your complaint is legit.

Let’s also put out there this wasn’t a move in reaction to the low attendance at the game yesterday

Interesting

Obviously as a season ticket holder I didn’t check it.

I believe if I’m not mistaken before or early in the season they sent out a survey to all the students who had season tickets and asked if they would be willing to “give back” their tickets for that game if they weren’t going to be in town.

They weren’t required to by any means and if they said no that was fine and they would receive their ticket to the game.

Actually was a great move by Syracuse to try and make sure there is still a good environment on that end of the stadium.
