I’d be way less concerned about “recruiting classes” for the next 2+ seasons, and focus more on how well does the new coach backfill roster holes via the portal.

As was stated, the ship has mostly sailed on quality HS croots for the next 2 seasons.
Of course, but they also need to spend the time getting in with the future.
Need to be build a base the next 2 years with future players. Make sure the transfers play an upbeat exciting brand of basketball.

Every day that the program goes without a head coach is another day that the program sinks further into despair.

It's been almost 8 months since Q resignation, that was plenty of time to create a list of names and inquiries/calls should be completed. VA, A&M, Miss St didn't have all this extra time and all 3 have coaches now. SU late to the party.

Tennesee still in tournament but still managed to grab 2 from the portal and we are in quicksand.

We're hiring Geno away from UConn, but he's a little busy right now.

Surely the AD had a list of candidates he wanted to interview and should have been on top of this/had discussions throughout the season. I have no idea why it has taken so long to announce a new HC, but perhaps new names have been added to their list of coaches they want to interview who are/were still in the tournament, and that is what is holding up this process?

Personally, the impatient side of me wants to know ASAP, but the other part doesn't mind waiting a little extra longer-- if at the end of the day we come away with a home run hire. We already know the next couple of years are going to be rebuilding years and that we are going to have to build from the portal to even think about fielding a decent team.

Teisha and Priscilla haven't entered their names into the portal yet, so that is a good sign. Could be speaking too soon, but those two have always been the ones that seemed loyal to 'Cuse regardless of who the coach was/is. Maybe the new coach can sway the Carr's to come back, and build a decent team around them 4? But that is just wishful thinking at this point.

I know I'm impatient but the next coach better be in the tournament right now and that is why no announcement has been made yet. If after all these months the job goes to someone that is a relative unknown or unproven, well I don't know what I would think about that.
Unless we are after the So Dakota coach, then there is no HC left that would be choosing SU. The rest have better gigs or long time coach where they are. NIT?

Yep, agree. I guess we will find out how important the future of women's bball team is to the university. They certainly dropped the ball keeping an eye on things when Q was running the show.

Y'all need to take a deep breath and remember that when the football coaches were recently hired there was no announcement until all the legal documents were finalized and signed.
This. After the Q debacle, all candidates for SU coaching positions need to be fully vetted. That takes time.

There are also mandatory drug tests. An extra couple of days to ensure we never hire someone like Q again is something we have to do.

So we can't hire Cee Lo Green?

Or have it be like hiring a DC, who then took another job before the ink was even dry.

I understand the point of patience, I guess my thought is that they would have already narrowed it down to maybe 2 people a while ago and the investigative work behind the scenes would have already taken place long before this week. I work for a giant corporation that moves at the speed of a glacier so I understand how the pace of things go. I don't want to be a negative nelly though, I'm just an impatient SOB.

Well hope that Shaun Belby is working up some film on these players in the portal and we hit the ground sprinting and not a crawl.

We had to wait on the football board for the offensive coordinator and that turned out to be a great hire. Hoping for the same result here but waiting patiently is never easy.
This needs to be a good hire, and someone who can be here a long time.
The AD did well in Lacrosse, and the 4 new hires in football.
This needs to be a home run for the Women's team.

Every time I see an update to this thread I get excited that the announcement has been made.
