SU football plays where you would love a do-over

1991/92, when Miami was #1 and we were #10, at the Dome.

2nd to last possession, I believe, trailing 16 - 10, down near the Miami 20. Graves was hit by Sapp as he threw, the ball popped up, Marley intercepted. Graves was throwing to Gedney in the end zone, who was open.
1992/1993.

Do people forget details of the Kennedy assassination?

There was only one Kennedy assassination and it was one of the most important historical events of the era. We've played Miami multiple times so it can be easy to get confused from one game to the next when they took place 25 years ago.

Geez Frankie. We can't all be perfect like you apparently are. Who peed in your corn flakes?

Good list.

For me, Tennessee, end of first half, I think we could have just taken a knee and ran out the clock. Might be wrong there. But that Konrad fumble that gave them a late TD was just a killer.

Also, 1993 homecoming against WVU, if I could change one thing it would be a power outage at the Dome that night.

I'm sure there's one killer play from either 1991 or 1995 home losses to ECU I'd like to change just can't think specifically of one.

'92 Miami, '94 Oklahoma, '97 NC State, '98 Tennessee were 4 of the toughest Dome losses to get over considering the circumstances.

It's also something that only happened once. Some of these teams we have played multiple times

I'm a bit surprised anyone would think that was just another Miami game and that it's easy to get them confused. That was one of maybe 2 or 3 events in the program's entire history where SU had an outside but legitimate chance of getting into the national title discussion. No other Miami game even comes close to rivaling the stakes... as well as just about any other game in that case.

So yes, when someone says the "Miami game" - I know exactly what they're referring to.

As for the play in question, SU had clearly changed the momentum of the game and was rolling off one first down after another. There was a palpable sense of "my god they really are going to do it" by that point. And then the designed rollout occurs... graves checks off his first and second options, turns his head to the right flat where gedney is wide open waving his arms. Graves cocks his arm but gets hit just before he begins his throwing motion. A diving Rohan Marley snares the ball just before it hit the artificial turf.

We managed one final heroic drive that everyone remembers because of how it ended but that last drive was extended by a fortunate penalty and some desperate quarterback scrambles. Very different tone with the clock ticking down and graves puking.

If there was a true turning point - it was the graves "fumble" and Marley recovery.

I agree with you but not everybody remembers every detail when they are posting on a message board in the middle of the work day. I guess we're not as smart or as good of a fan as you are. If only you could figure out how to renovate the Dome instead of constantly whining about it now.

Quite the contrary - I spoke up only when another poster felt the need to "correct" the original comment with alternative facts. It's one thing to not be sure of the details, it's another to go correcting people with bad information.

By the way, I'm allowed to act surprised that one of the biggest SU football games in our lifetime can be so easily twisted and confused. Apparently some are easily offended by that and have to make juvenile comparisons to fanhood. But that's par for the course these days... I've been accused of not being a good enough fan when I "forget" that JB has 1000 more wins than I do.

They weren't alternative facts. They were just talking about different parts of the game but I apologize. I shouldn't have gone down to that level regardless of how I feel about you or your response.

You know that WVU game was bad when I was yelling "block that kick" with the cheerleaders because there was nothing else to cheer for. If I remember right, we actually did block a kick.

I think you nailed my top 4 - '92 Miami, '94 Oklahoma, '97 NC State, '98 Tennessee

I remember ECU had an RB from the Syracuse area who was upset we didn't recruit him and he managed to run for like 200 yards. Great.

East Carolina was such an enormous pain in the A in the 90s. We were up 21-0 in that 1995 game (McNabbs home debut).

Great list for sure. I always looked at that Oklahoma game as a major one since it was the first one I attended and didn't realize how historic it was until looked back upon it. It was, aside from Miami 94 game, the loudest i ever heard the dome for football.

I just wonder what the upside was for the 94 season if we beat Oklahoma in that game? That team, to me, was flawed in many ways so not sure what the upside was for that team if we squeak out that win. I feel like that loss, coupled with the upset vs Tech, equaled out. I still think that team isn't a Bowl team for 1994 purposes. I also hated that they took the names off the jerseys that year.

We were ranked #10 going into the Miami game at 6-1. If we were 7-0, I would have to imagine we would be right around the Top 5, and we would have been hosting College Gameday.

That was the first SU game I attended as well.

Iowa's 8-play goal line stand against Syracuse in 2OT, in 2006

I would have killed for 9th do-over. But I doubt it would have mattered.

I don't understand why we wouldn't just run a QB dive with 240 lb PP over and over again. It would be physically impossible to stop 8 times in a row.

That's assuming we beat Oklahoma and run that table to the Miami game. I feel like we weren't good enough to just keep taking care of business. That Miami game was a mismatch, as was the BC game where Mamula/Boyd had like 100 sacks. All i'm saying is it was a transition year for the Orange when that meant 6-7 wins vs 2-3 in the modern Orange era. I remember our ranking going into Miami w the one loss seemed a tad bit inflated due to the big matchup w Miami.
