Wideout Alvin Cornelius, the focus of the Curtis defense, had only one catch for seven yards, but did run for a 31-yard score in the third quarter after taking a snap from center.
But, after Austin went nowhere on two runs, Curtis QB Prince Dukes threw deep and was picked off by Cornelius, who ran from his 44 to the Curtis 19.
A Curtis three-and-out and a short punt set up Cornelius' 31-yard TD run early in the third quarter as the Pirates increased the lead to 21-0.

1911: Telegraphing the news: "Lafayette defeated Syracuse on a gridiron of mud in the Syracuse stadium Saturday afternoon by the score of 10 to 0. All afternoon in Easton a large crowd followed the game. A special wire telegraphed the news of each play from the field to the office of the Western Union on South Third Street. The pavements on both sides of the street and the street itself were filled with a jam of people from the time the game started until it was over. After the game was over the crowd cheered the team collectively and individually, and as they started up the street the bell of old South College pealed out the victory."
