Super Bowl LII thread

Anyone who lives in Minnesota is tough.
Everything is sheltered indoors.
Bloomington is so damn cold.
The Mall of America was insanely big it made Destiny look tiny.
Justin Timberlake was meh not bad but not great.

Did they show the purple lights on all over the city during the JT tribute to Prince? That was wicked cool.

Well, that's what I expected. So what's the complaint then? If the penalty is in the eye of the beholder, and the beholder says you're fine, then what's the issue. All receivers do that, such that most of these penalties are on slot guys, etc.

This does nothing to disprove my thesis.
Yeah your right coaching doesn’t matter.
The Patriots are always an undisciplined team and the refs turn a blind eye.
Give the team credit and stop looking for conspiracy theories. Philly beat them. The refs could have swung that game if they were on Kraft’s payroll.

I didn’t see it. He went towards the Philly side and into the stands which shocked me.

The Butler story is leaking.

Butler missed curfew, got caught with weed and had to be escorted back to the team hotel by local police late, and subsequently had a meltdown on coaches.

If this is true Butler cost himself some money in FA. Belichick sitting him here shows some stones.
Belichick apparently told the captains Butler wasn’t playing.

Belichick clearly doesn't follow the Jimmy Johnson playbook of only disciplining scrubs.

Full story now:
Malcom Butler missed initial flight from Boston to Minneapolis. Belichick gave him a fine and the team gave him a cover story of illness.

Arrived to team hotel intoxicated after curfew twice. During room evaluation (Thurs) he was caught smoking marijuana. Missed Saturday morning team meeting. He got into a loud shouting match with Stephen Belichick the DBs coach and Bill decided to bench him on Saturday night and make him the 4th CB and only play in case of injury. Only reason he was active the team didn’t have another DB on the practice squad.

Belichick told captains on Sunday morning. Butler didn’t know till before kickoff.

Well, that's the point I'm trying to make...they could and have influenced outcomes for a long, long time. And the Patriots have won a TON of games where they got a lot of help. So yes, that's the entire point.

At some point, contact in the secondary is contact.

I guess a die-hard Patriots fan wouldn't be convinced that, you're right, they are "disciplined" except they become very undisciplined on Special Teams all of a sudden (unlikely).

It was a great game so I'll let it go at this point.

Spent 7 weeks of the summer of 2007 at the Homewood Suites in Bloomington, right by the Mall. It is enormous. Good running in the city, and right there as well.

JT was all dance last night. I think his voice is going away.

Hard to tell considering how loud the backtrack was for most of the night. JT was never really a great singer anyways; he's a decent singer who knows how to write a good pop song and is a pretty good performer.

I like him a lot personally, but the actual singing ability has always been at the end of the list of what makes him a good music artist.

I saw the part about weed and missing curfew from one of the PFF writers but hadn't seen the intoxicated part. Jeez. If that's true he may have cost himself a ton of money this year.

How reputable is source? Pretty dumb on his part.

I think the shouting match with Bill’s son was the line.
Bill probably didn’t want someone trying walk on his son and so he decided to move on.
The weed stuff is nothing IMO.
Missing the team meeting and Stephen Belichick are the reasons.

Also how the hell to do you miss the team flight.

I still can't believe how bad the Pat's defense was this year. That was 2015-16 Saints like.

Well Malcom sure was a busy guy this week. Even if Bill keeps quiet, other teams obviously have ways of finding out so he cost himself some big money in free agency.

The back 4 were solid.
Gilmore played really good the last half of the year.
McCourty and Chung were good S.

The front 7 was awful.
They only have 3 players in that 7 who are league average. Malcolm Brown, Trey Flowers, Kyle Van Noy.
The rest are garbage.

Brady masked it all. Plus Belichick knew how to scheme the opponents and the red zone D was good.

They need Hightower back. Sign a couple of LBs and they will be fine on defense. They haven’t selected a player in the first round the last 2 years. They will get better defensively.

Bill not publicly killing the guy shocks me.
The fanbase is pissed but the truth does calm it down.
If I were Belichick I bury Butler as he is a FA but he is keeping it as quiet as he can while the truth comes out.

The back end got eaten up a bit, but I think that may be due to the lack of a pass rush. If teams have all day to throw its hard to ask guys to stay in coverage that long. I still think over the long term letting Chandler Jones go was a mistake. They could have kept him and still been under the cap.

Chandler got paid top off the market he wasn’t getting that from Bill.
That trade got them a starting OL Joe Thuney and a WR in Malcolm Mitchell with the pick from Arizona they re-traded.

Plus this is why Belichick traded Chandler.
Shirtless Chandler Jones went to police station looking for help

He didn’t trust him. They paid Hightower he is a good edge rusher.
You nailed on the secondary Foles has all day and that is why he picked them apart.
They couldn’t blitz because Philly spread them out.

I would blast him if I was Bill. Missing the plane is ridiculous enough but fine if you don't want to publicize that. But when he turns Super Bowl week into party central repeatedly, he's asking to get blasted.

Yeah there had to be more to the story, clearly Belichick didn't want to air dirty laundry, I just don't understand people acting as if the coach just benched a 18 game starter for no apparent reason or that it was a bad strategic decision, I mean where is a coach suppose to draw the line? even if he did 50% of what has been reported you have to sit his but down. Act like a professional
