I'm in:

Dear Athletic Director Wildhack,

Please add my voice to the numerous other loyal SU football fans, season ticket holders, alumni, and generous benefactors who have contacted you with respect to the Steven Clark disqualification.

I fully realize you are bound by NCAA by-law to designate a member of the medical staff with complete autonomous decision making with respect to player participation. I am not asking you to overrule Dr. Tucker’s decision in the Clark case, as I know you cannot.

However, I do implore you to review the history of medical disqualifications at SU as compared to our peers.

I implore you to review the process, information, and decision making that leads to these monumental decisions, including the use of independent, expert medical opinions.

I implore you to do all you can to assure that Coach Babers is not placed at further disadvatage by disqualifying players against consensus, independent medical opinion; or the opinion of other university medical staff who have, and will continue to, re-qualify our players after they are forced to transfer.

I sincerely thank you for your time and consideration.

Respectfully submitted,

[007]

He did. What you have at the end of all of this are 5 doctors (3 hematologists, WMU's team doc, and a vascular surgeon) all saying Steven can play, and Tucker (quite possibly with the backing of senior level admin) saying "screw you, anyways".

So what I have read is that DiFino is now saying Steven need not stay on the blood thinners for live but a 9 to 12 month treatment plan may be advisable. So is Tucker saying the medical DQ is provisional to DiFino's recommendation or is he saying Steven will never play football again? With some assurances would taking a red shirt year and remaining at Syracuse to start grad school be an option or is it just time to move on? I'm the kind of guy that tries to rely on logic and sadly I can find little here!

No. Tucker is saying go to hell.

And what the specialist in Rochester stated is that a 9-12 months regiment of blood thinners isn't necessary.

Absolutely unbelievable! Guess it IS time to take up the torches and pitchforks. Disappointing what the impact will be on the football team but to see a hard working, dedicated kid who apparently LOVES Syracuse torn away by an unfounded decision breaks my heart.

I don't post much but read pretty much everything here. This makes me so sad/angry for 2 reasons...it confirms my suspicions that the admin isn't all in on football and that we are losing one of my favorite players since he step foot on campus. I will miss watching him play for Syracuse and had high hopes of him dominating the line his last 2 years here.

I know for myself...if this is part of a bigger issue of the admin not giving the support needed and we end up losing Dino because of it I will not be renewing my 4 season tickets.

Right, but I'm trying to rationalize by saying Tucker may be much more comfortable with DiFino's recommendation than that of anyone he does not have a relationship with. DiFino says he should stay on the medication until he completes a 9 to 12 month course and can't play football until that is complete. Tucker's lazy response is to just hear "he can't play football," Guess rationality has no place in this scenario!

Or because of that relationship the med staff took Steven to DiFino because Tucker knew the clots had probably been caused by incompetence in applying the wrong sized brace.

Any legal precedent, here?

Also. With the transfer, in no way based on Stevens actions, is there the possibility of an ncaa waiver? (In regards to years of eligibility)

Pretty sure there will be a red-shirt given should Steven transfer to WMU.

If a medical redshirt, would that give Tucker the justification he's looking for? (And can't seem to find, at the moment). What undersized brace? If you get my drift.

(Assuming he's healthy at the moment)

In going to WMU, it'd be just a regular red shirt. Tucker made it plain that there's no way he will ever clear Steven. Period. Doesn't matter.

My email to the Chancellor:

Sir,
I am a proud and loyal alumnus with a BS(1963) and MS(1966) from SU. I "bleed Orange" for our athletic teams and our standing and reputation in academia.

I believe you need to intervene in the matter of Steven Clark's medical disqualification. It appears the situation has been bungled, from the initial injury which is "rumored" to have been caused by the team staff to the decision by the university doctor to ignore multiple expert opinions that he was ok to play. I understand that I may not be fully informed, but I appear to have lots of company. It's not about winning, but is about fairness and justice for a very deserving student-athlete.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Respectfully,
Robert B. Fletcher '63,'66

If you liked my post(as many did), take a minute or two to copy/modify it and send to the Chancellor at chancellor
(or the Post Standard or Mr. Wildhack). It is something positive you can do.

This is legal cya.. I'm very sorry. It's not right.
And it hasn't changed in the last two years. The school administration has continued CYA medicine with their doctors. Read the Kyle Knapp crap.

For those who have sent e-mails to anyone in the admin, would be curious to know if you received any replies...
