What I don't get is the fact that this Dr is a family practice physician who has no specialty accreditation. He is absolutely in over his head and the University should be dealing strictly with specialists in this area of expertise.

Is this a fact ?

First off, incredibly saddened to hear the news. I echo what everyone else has said, especially Finwad32.

If I could take it one step further, it goes without saying that I'm an unwavering fan of Coach Shafer and have become a huge fan of Steven. Seeing SU is saying he's medically disqualified, then it seems too perfect for Steven and Shaf to reunite at MTSU pending any respective further testing. The kid has talent and Shaf deeply cares about his players (bcubs9497 knows that better than anyone). I hope the conversation happens soon, if Steven is interested in continuing his career elsewhere.

God Bless you guys.

You don't think they read this forum?

Ok, so, if they do...was hoping they got rid of the cover your ass medicine practiced from the SS era and a new, progressive staff was hired. Guess not.

The specialist in Syracuse who examined Steven recommended that he not play anymore.

This isn't true. He has to be certified for what he does. He also is helping the NCAA in the field of concussion protocol. Steven is one of my favorite players on the team and this sucks

Oh, and get this. Dr Tucker said that if Steven were to begin taking xarelto again, he might be able to play next year.

That is ridiculous

I really don't understand this University sometimes, most times.

I'll continue to be a big fan of Steven's and think its a tragedy he won't end his college career with the Orange.

Hopefully it's the Doctor or the policy that is on the way out
Agreed.

If DiFino and Tucker thought that there was still an issue with clotting in April, why did Steven get taken off the Xarelto in the first place? Now they want him back on it? And the vascular surgeon down here stated, specifically, that there's no reason for him to be on it.

You would think you could at least have an appeal policy that allows the student to acquire the written recommendations from 3 or more different specialists in the area of concern, and allow the weight of majority opinion to determine the proper course of action. If something unfortuneate happens, the University could always pass the buck to the doctors who gave the student clearance to play

I feel for Steven and his family. But I also feel for Babers and his staff for having to put up with this BS. They're already at a disadvantage in so many ways against their ACC peers. Add a paranoid medical staff that DQ's players against their families' wishes left and right. Brilliant.

The way I see it, you either use the same medical standards as all of the other Power conference programs (for better or worse) OR you drop the program as being too harmful. This half-in / half-out approach is not benefiting anyone. The players they DQ (who are good enough) just transfer and keep playing football anyway.

Makes zero sense. None of it does honestly

I do hope this is bought up at every No Huddle tour get together. Is our medical staff overly cautious compared to others, as many here believe

I know this will probably hurt Steven more hearing this, but he was one big piece of this defensive line coming into this season, and I think it was obvious to everyone. This kid can play. He shocked me in his freshman season, and from then on I looked forward to how he would improve on his play.

We have lost a major component to this unit this year (and the next) and it can't make anyone happy. Thanks for choosing Cuse, Steven. Awesome player.
