Syracuse opens at +21 at Clemson

My favorite annual tradition. The slow realization that Clemson fans butter us up but really detest us.

And to be honest, if the shoe was on the other foot I’m sure we’d be just as dismissive. Come to think of it they do play basketball, I think ;)

(Not gbo of course).

41-0

That is all.

We gave up 42 to WMU and Clemson’s athletes can exploit those same issues.

I'm getting tired of this point. It was really just one terrible quarter where we gave up 24 in game one of the season, and on the road, to boot.

Otherwise, our D has been getting better game by game. I think our safeties are taking better angles, and we are getting some good solid secondary play.

Lawrence hasn't started but he's played plenty and has showed enough to supplant a guy that took his team to an ACC title and a CFP berth.

We'll see. I'm hoping for an "Ethan Cole" practice legend type of performance from Lawrence.

Bryant was hurt before the game w you guys last year.
Not as much as he was during the game and the meeting with Mr. Slayton. He should tell goldielocks all about it before he skips town. ... (BTW, a classy and smart move by Dabo ... and simply a smart one by Kelly).

Bryant may have had an “owie” in Dino’s lingo, but that’s no excuse. You do realize Dungey played thru a broken freaking foot and almost beat FSU last year? And our DL and overall D are way better than last year. And so are the OL, O and ST.

The kid (and some adults) may be in for a surprise.

What are the height of the Tiger WR's? They looked tall vs their competition and that could be a problem for SU and why Dino wants to get some of those 6' 2" inch or above type WR's and of course DB's.
Main guys you’ll see:

Higgins 6-4
Ross 6-4
Rodgers 5-10
Renfrow 5-10
Overton 6-4
Powell 6-0
Kendrick 6-0

It’s the best WR corps we’ve had since 2012. I would argue it’s the best in the country and one of the main reasons we needed to promote Lawrence. All those 5*s didn’t come to Clemson to block.

I can't remember where I saw it, but some website had it at 33-34 points... Of course, this caused me to look into the odds a little deeper, where the 3 touchdown spread was the norm. I'm no Carnac the Magnificent, but I do see a good football game with Clemson. The Clemson QB issue is interesting. Defense wins games, offense sells tickets, and Coach B knows that...

Clemson has a big QB2 issue now, but that’s better than last year we had a moderately sized QB1 issue. Bryant was a good player, but not a great one, and his weakness in the passing game was a bottleneck on the offense. I have no doubt that Lawrence at QB1 makes this team a lot better—stats and eye test both show that.

Thanks. Saw in a highlight one of the tall ones just grab a ball over the DB's head and figured you had a few over 6' 3". Looked pretty strong too which is a tough combo for 5' 10" DB's.

Renfrow was a 2 star...right?

I'm not saying that he won't be better than Bryant. I'm saying that Clemson is betting on his ceiling. I think this decision to start Lawrence was made because Dabo is a decent guy and a good coach. I think he understands that Bryant would have lost his job by the end of the year, and he wanted to both give Bryant the chance to redshirt and protect Bryant's future draft stock. Now he gets to invest in the inevitable future and part on positive terms with Bryant.

Also, to be fair, Lawrence threw a total of nine passes against TAMU, which was Clemson's hardest opponent BY FAR. All of this adds up to the fact that I don't think it's fair to worship at the alter of Lawrence at this time.

Not worshiping at anybody's altar. Just telling you that Lawrence is a better QB than Bryant RIGHT NOW.

What's funny is Renfrow is the one I'm worried about the most. The rest? meh...
If you aren’t worried about Higgins and Ross I honestly don’t think you have watched Clemson play this year. They didn’t play last year and are absolute game changers on the outside.

I think that remains to be seen.

Is there any question about dungey playing?

No. He’s playing.

But unlike the last 3 seasons - and like you guys this season - our QB2 is a better passer and is a better fit for the system.

He’s no TL - but he’s a 4* and can make all the throws

I don’t. Stats and eye test bear it out

I don’t think stats against teams like Furman and Georgia Southern holds up as an adequate test considering that Bryant took them to the CFP last year.

Renfrow was a 2 star...right?
If that. He had scholarship offers from Appalachian St and FCS schools. Walked on at CU instead. Earned a scholarship his first year.

I think that remains to be seen.
It’s pretty clear, coming from a guy who was all KB before the season. Discount the stats if you want, and watch the games instead.

I think all of that can be true and we can still give up points to Clemson. UConn and FSU will probably both end up in the lower tier of offensive rankings at the end of the year and Wagner is Wagner. I’d say Clemson is more likely to score closer to 42 points than 7 points like FSU did. We’re going to have to sustain drives against their defense and it’s going to be tough to do that because their line can overwhelm our backs and I’m still waiting to see which of our receivers can get open against their athletes.

I love Dino and our team, but seriously, what evidence is there that we are better? Our schedule had the seas part with uconn and FSU being a dumpster fire. And all this talk of Lawrence not producing? He isn't the qb bc Bryant is leaving, rather he is the real deal . Geeez, he was the #1 rated recruit in 2018 and is a stud. We should have been begging for Bryant...

Something Go Orange something even bets. Also W. Mich. is a brutal road game.

While my orange-glasses (uhhh...SU Orange, not Clemson Orange;)) have us winning, I think your prediction is more accurate. And a big reason is, as you stated, Coach Dabo. I like the mutual respect between the teams, even though it will be war on the field. As I and many others have stated on this forum, we want Clemson to win every game EXCEPT when they play Syracuse. Hoping for a great game and no injuries for either team!
I hope Clemson loses every game that they play in absolutely every sport in which they play.

May Clemson never schedule Georgetown, UConn, WVU, or PSU.
