Syracuse Parts Ways with Adrian Autry [Official]

Love this statement. Sounds like Hodgson or Schertz. Luke Murray’s name might be floated because he has a high ceiling and could have great success as a head coach, but I don’t see them taking the risk based on that statement of looking for a proven winner. And Hop feels like a non-starter if you say you’re looking for a proven winner.

Hop would be the fall back plan if we strike out with our first 5 choices including GMac

Luke Murray has two National Championships as an assistant. Does that count as "a proven winner"?

Just to show how words are just words, Gmac is a "proven winner "at the highest level. He has only won at everything he touches including the NC. Just trying to point out how "a proven winner at the highest level" might be viewed. So don't read too much into that statement from Wildhack. AD talk. that is all.

He won’t have a hard time at all. He almost left this year for a big time one in Florida. The Griff hate on here is wild. Hes connected like crazy to a lot of people

It seems whether it is college, NBA, or NFL, being liked and connected is more important for a coach then being a good coach (and I say this without an opinion as to whether Griffin is or is not a good coach).

Spot on. This is all who you know scenario. And friends look out for friends. They don’t want newcomers in their circles

I am curious… what wild hack say when he fired Dino about the replacement. I remember a thread where everyone picked apart every character of the post to see how various candidates matched it, right down to the Oxford comma indicating that it would be Sir Alex as the next football coach. Then we ended up with someone completely off the radar in Fran.

Ladies and Gents...may I re-introduce you to James Arthur...

Aside from the obvious BH candidacy, the name I would love to be in the mix for is Otzelberger. What he has done at the blackwater that is ISU is astounding. And he has proven results over a number of years. The way he destroyed SU this year certainly should have caught the attention of the powers that be. His buyout is reasonable. And ISU is under resouced.

While P4 to P4 moves are not particularly common, they do happen. Certainly a step up in program and prestige. JW was so assertive in his statement today that you never know...

Otzelberger is a good option. It will be interesting now that Red is officially gone if agents of coaches that contact Syracuse for their clients are told that the job has already been filled.

If yes, then I expect we will get X posts from college basketball insiders that the Syracuse job has been filled by a coach that is still coaching and an announcement will be later.

What makes BH a bad hire? I’m truly curious on what the pitch against him is not in anyway being combative on it. If there is a legitimate case then it wouldn’t be out on a limb. Since everyone pays close attention here around the program like they did to a small extent around Lykes… what’s the full court press making BH awful?
mostly from this perspective. We'd likely be a stepping stone to an outsider like this. That's if he can negotiate the battlefield of a strange new place with serious limits competitive wise with NIL, etc. and have success. He'd be looked at from day one with a critical skeptical eye by the Syracuse fan base with its notorious show me success first attitude before buying in.

The fear is if they don't give GMAC a look, a revered legend in these parts, there'd likely be the same reaction in response to the stupid decision of putting the baseball stadium where it is vs downtown. IOW people angry/upset and staying away just for spite, not buying in.

Also Not sure his affect/personality is a fit here either, regardless we're still taking a chance with this type mid level, albeit successful coach. As RF20 pointed out successfully in detail, there absolutely NO QUESTION who resume is better and looks better. But there's now some nuance that need be put into the mix given what Gerry accomplished literally last night.

And listen they’re gonna be a 16 seed vs a 1 so no one should expect with a 7 man roster for them to pull an upset so jumping ahead to cut it off before it comes to pass, that isn’t and shouldn’t be a factor.
But the bigger picture over two seasons should be and what happened last night should be too. To the poster saying it doesn't make sense to see how one game should matter in this assessment makes no sense, none. It happened.

He took a doormat to success very very quickly. To not pay attention to that given the unique variables at play (historic syracuse legend, likely lifer with success) is antithetical to due diligence required on this very precarious situation here now that is Syracuse basketball.
The world didn't exactly shift on it axis because of last night, but it did shift, and should shift, as a factor for the hiring of a basketball coach at Syracuse University.

As mentioned elsewhere this is a lightning in the bottle now unique situation the way all the planets have just aligned. Day one a GMAC tenure would have record number of us getting seasons tickets back and others going in first time jumping on the Gerry train.

The excitement meter for the fanbase would be immediately and ridiculously high off the charts with a true circle the wagons underdog us against the world mentality with everyone around here all in. We saw a kid mature as a player to immediate and nonstop success albeit different type of success taking the reins once Carmello left. And now have seen a man start maturing as a coach with likely more maturation and success as a coach.

And with success he'd likely be a lifer here vs. the USF coach who would likely use us as a stepping stone to the next level. He overcame his physical limitations to have success as a player, I wouldn't bet against him doing the same here circumnavigating the formative obstacles here too to get us competitive and successful again, that I have no doubt (well if I'm being honest there's some doubt there given all the factors at play).

But If we can't get a top top level guy here (Wright, Pitino, etc) as a coach as then it's taking a chance no matter if it's GMAC or another mid level pick. Why not take a chance on a guy whose upside is as above with immediate upside payoff vs. a similarly chancey albeit good resume pick who also may or may not be successful here but who's payout to success comes (if it does at all) later.

That’s the best I got to explain it. No easy answers here but would hate to see us miss this very unique and pressing opportunity to at least have him in the mix of interviewing etc. just to be expedient on what looked 100% right with BH but before last night occurred.

(Sarcasm font). You know better than to apply logic and good sense to an emotionally charged fan base on a sports fan site.

Seriously, good advice. The reality is that they will get what they believe to be the best coach available at the time they make their decision.

I dont think otzelberger will come to the north-east. He will have his choice of jobs and i wouldnt be surprised if he sticks around Ames until something in the mid west opens up like MSU or Purdue

Appreciate the take as always. One thing about the support feature with Gerry is where are we as a fanbase in terms of connection to the past. I’m not certain we can make the argument one way or the other with any certainty so while your point is fair that maybe he fires up the fanbase it’s fair to be skeptical that folks may still be lukewarm about another Cuse hire even someone like GMac.

That said it’s not at all controversial Gerry deserves a good look and hopefully has gotten one given things are likely progressing past what was already happening.

Good stuff and while I might not see eye to eye I do get where you are coming from and appreciate the response. We should know soon hopefully.

BH is as much or more of an upstate guy than GMAC. Again we heard dream job from HFBCDM, but BH says this is the job he wants I see no reason why we don't go that route if we meet all his demands.

I appreciate your thoughts, but there is nothing in there that says BH would be a disaster.

Also, there is nothing wrong with being a stepping stone. If the AD let that possibility hold them back, they would never be able to make a good hire.

On a related note, the change in tone on Hodgson from some our precious illuminati here may be the funniest thing I've ever seen on this site, and so predictable. I hope you haven't been swayed by the attempts to poison the well on Hodgson. It was a lot to do about basically nothing... just some butthurt folks attempting to put their collective thumbs on the scale.

Actually no hadn’t seen any of that, at least not paid attention to it.

As my posting volume here suggests just not in a place to be locked in on keeping up with it all, mostly I’m coming from a “pulse of the community” type frame of mind in addition to seeing a few interviews with BH.

As you know my 35 years private practice in healthcare here allows me to have a fairly good, albeit small, but I think truly representative sampling of the community mindset.

Until last night, I’ve been keeping that perspective I’ve been hearing at arms length, not jumping on the Gerry train as of then. Last night caused a reanalysis of it all and here I am today.
