Syracuse Parts Ways with Adrian Autry [Official]

everything Ex-ADJW says that we will hire a proven winner but we likely have a first time chancellor hiring a first time athletic director hiring a first time coach in the P4 based on the alleged whims of a first time basketball donor. Yes. Color me skeptical if I don’t have faith that this group of “proven winners” will restore hoops to former glory.

I'd like to believe John vetted the "proven winner" part of the statement. That would eliminate Hop from consideration. The other candidates haven't necessarily won at the highest level, but they also haven't shot themselves in the foot the way Hop did.

I don’t think ADJW knows what the term proven winner means in this context based on the rumored candidates under consideration. Every candidate is a high risk bet based on potential and future upside.

I think this is the statement he would have preferred to be able to make 3 years ago. He might have just added a little polish to not disrespect Red or Gerry when saying it given they still would have had an interview in a normal search.

And the alternate route is an out-going chancellor installing a failed AD and hiring a failed headcoach.

I'll take my chances with the former.

He felt bad leaving Autry. They are like brothers.

CuseMan4 you’re entitled to your opinion. He’s one of my close friends so I’ll always stand up for him. But we will disagree here kindly

We don’t know what we don’t know on here for those not connected and can’t do anything but respect you for standing up for him. If everyone can land in a good spot for their career and family then that’s all that matters. The past is the past now.

He won’t have a hard time at all. He almost left this year for a big time one in Florida. The Griff hate on here is wild. Hes connected like crazy to a lot of people
I mean all the players and coaches know he’s a joke. There’s a reason he gets the worst scouts. He brought in William Patterson. We will see where he ends up…

Patterson was probably a bust, dude should have stayed and tried the Jessie Edwards path who Griff did land.

No doubt Red had his shortcomings as a head coach. Took awhile to understand the demands of new NIL era, which he’s admitted to. To me he coached like a young player where the game is moving a bit too fast for them. He probably would’ve benefitted with head coaching experience at a lower level elsewhere before getting the SU job.

The collapse this year was not nearly all on him though. Somewhere around the BC loss many of the players stopped competing at the level they had early on like they did in the Houston game. The lack of effort was obvious, and I don’t care who the coach is. At this level, and especially now getting paid like they do, it was just pathetic.

I give Red a lot of credit for never losing his cool on the court or with the media. He’s a really good dude and was a great player and assistant coach for Cuse, just didn’t work out as head coach.

Red was put in the unenviable position of having to follow a legend. Made even harder by the legend not wanting to leave. It was always going to be an uphill climb for him and it's sad it didn't work out.
That may be true but Red has also proven to be a poor head coach.

It will be interesting to see how Syracuse much values more experienced P4 head coaches versus up and coming mid-major coaches with less overall experience and tourney experience based on JW's comment that a "proven winner" will be hired.

There will be some P4 coaches with interest in this job that will have their agents contact Syracuse. Several of them could be quickly eliminated from consideration but there may be someone that may make Syracuse think about them seriously. Often these candidates remain secret.

That’s ok hes out on a limb but he’s right

What makes BH a bad hire? I’m truly curious on what the pitch against him is not in anyway being combative on it. If there is a legitimate case then it wouldn’t be out on a limb. Since everyone pays close attention here around the program like they did to a small extent around Lykes… what’s the full court press making BH awful?
