Syracuse Parts Ways with Adrian Autry [Official]

Some interesting takes by John Goodman in his podcast.
He questions if Cuse has sufficient NIL resources to appeal to the top tier HC candidates.
He knows for a fact that Providence has a substantially higher NIL budget which makes them more appealing. Says if anyone would have said that 3-4 years ago they would be called a moron.
He no longer sees Cuse as a top 20-25 job because of the lack of resources.
Said several coaches have told him if Lyke becomes AD they wouldn't go near the place.
Said nobody will take the HC job without knowing who the next AD is (ie: being hired by the new AD and with a firm commitment on the level of NIL resources). Except for GMac for obvious reasons.
Feels Cuse has one big thing going for them. They haven't won in 5 years. If a HC comes in and restores winning, going to the NCAAT every year at that level of competition in the ACC they will be viewed as a worthy candidate for an opening at a top 10 job.

Appreciate the take as always. One thing about the support feature with Gerry is where are we as a fanbase in terms of connection to the past. I’m not certain we can make the argument one way or the other with any certainty so while your point is fair that maybe he fires up the fanbase it’s fair to be skeptical that folks may still be lukewarm about another Cuse hire even someone like GMac.

That said it’s not at all controversial Gerry deserves a good look and hopefully has gotten one given things are likely progressing past what was already happening.

Good stuff and while I might not see eye to eye I do get where you are coming from and appreciate the response. We should know soon hopefully.

I disagree with most of this, but always love seeing your well-thought out logic / opinions.

A rare occasion when we aren't on the same page [which is ALL GOOD].

I commend you both...disagreeing without being disagreeable. Unfortunately, something that can also be generally of rare occasion here.

It won't be Lyke.
If it is, then we're all gone.

Luke Murray is perhaps the most interesting name on the list. IMO.
I get the feeling his name is talked about so much on here because of who is dad is. If is name was Jones we would barely talk about him.

Goodman is a clown. There are so many other reputable reporters out there with actual good sources. This guy just throws things at the wall and hopes they stick in an effort to get clicks/views. As others have said, we likely already have our next HC wrapped up based on all of the moves made today. Pay no attention to that guy.

It's hard for one guy to be wrong about so many things, but this guy seems to have done it.

He felt bad leaving Autry. They are like brothers.

CuseMan4 you’re entitled to your opinion. He’s one of my close friends so I’ll always stand up for him. But we will disagree here kindly

New baby in CNY probably contributed to not taking a job out of the area last summer also?

No doubt Red had his shortcomings as a head coach. Took awhile to understand the demands of new NIL era, which he’s admitted to. To me he coached like a young player where the game is moving a bit too fast for them. He probably would’ve benefitted with head coaching experience at a lower level elsewhere before getting the SU job.

The collapse this year was not nearly all on him though. Somewhere around the BC loss many of the players stopped competing at the level they had early on like they did in the Houston game. The lack of effort was obvious, and I don’t care who the coach is. At this level, and especially now getting paid like they do, it was just pathetic.

I give Red a lot of credit for never losing his cool on the court or with the media. He’s a really good dude and was a great player and assistant coach for Cuse, just didn’t work out as head coach.

Gotta say, as a cantankerous middle-aged fan who remembers when college basketball was good, I can't imagine how a talented four-year McD's All-America from the '90s successfully transitions to the NIL era. Obviously guys do it, but it must be surreal.

"I played with John Wallace and Lawrence Moten for Big East championships, we won 100+ games in four years. You guys make six figures a year and can't execute a decent skip pass."

Credit due for not routinely losing his cool. Weird times.

I'm so utterly and thoroughly exhausted by the resources excuse. The job of the HC, AD, and many others, is to get the resources. They're not going to fall from the sky. Work to get them. Work hard. Work creatively. But do it.

The notion that Syracuse basketball can't possibly obtain the resources necessary to be a top 25 program is freaking absurd.

It’s insane. Maybe the HC should’ve been more proactive?

Couldnt agree more. If JB is saying that too, it makes it even more infuriating. Isn't his job right now to raise money for the AD. A job we are presumably paying him to do.

I dont know who his dad is, but UConn is a high level program.
