Tampering

How could you forget about Utah Tech?!
Newly named Utah Tech.

Used to be Dixie State.

But grads started having issues believing it was a real school/sounded racist. So they changed it.

It was a good move.

But they had better names on the table that they passed on, which is a bummer.

So many kids drop out of college every year, many never go back. Most find a job/career doing something that doesn't require a college degree. It might take some time, but they do. None of my kids went to college, they all work, they all are doing fine. No one questioned their decision, not even me.

If my kids drop out of college, come home, and spend the first day home in the basement playing XBox, I'm going to question it. Loudly. And it might be their last day home.

There. I feel better already.

I had no idea its the former Dixie State.

You'd think they would put these controls in place BEFORE they instituted the process. I mean, bags have been an issue since the beginning of time, with boosters involved why would NIL be any different?
They in Indianapolis can't put controls in place. They can come up with a list of suggested rules, but the member schools have to put controls in place. IMO, it's a serious open question if there is a majority that can agree on any sort of a set of controls. It was the same thing with conference realignment. Everyone screamed about NCAA inaction about stopping it when the member schools wanted them to do absolutely nothing about it.

Bingo. The NCAA has always been a convenient fall guy. But the schools ARE the NCAA. They have the power to do things, or not.

Therein lies the problem. The schools are where the buck stops, the parents, so to speak, and yet they have created the monster known as The NCAA to which they have bound themselves. Where we are at now is the monster is menacing its parents. We have replaced what makes good sense with money is master, in our entire society; why would sport be different?
Either we wake up and return to our core values or we continue with this insanity!

Aren't D-II and D-III schools also full-voting members? It's awfully hard to come up with rules that work for Florida & Ohio St. and Amherst & Wisconsin-Whitewater.

I don't think it's insane.

I agree. All of this kvetching about the poor athlete is really selfish claptrap. 18 year olds can go to war, work on oil rigs, become police and firefighters, but oh no, they might make a mistake transferring colleges. Worse case: life lesson.
Many of these guys are only in college to chase professional money, and would not have gotten into a college but for the hope by the schools that they will help add to the bottom line.
Which is just as much an indictment of what a joke the public school system has become.

Certain rules are NCAA-wide and some apply to specific divisions. I think (and I may be wrong) a division can make a carve-out from an NCAA-wide rule, like the championship game rule, and only have it apply to their division. If they do, then the other divisions don't get to vote on it. The D-1 committee and only the D-1 schools voted to get rid of the requirement to have divisions to have a championship game. I believe they are still required to have divisions in D-2 and D-3.

I’ve been saying that for years. The committees, the board of directors, etc are all school administrators with a few others thrown in like lawyers.

it still comes down to voting for what is best for a school/a team/a player/the sport.. not always the same answer for all 4 things. Its much easier for a school thats in the lower 25% to make decisions that are better for the good of the sport than those fighting to be at the top. Things better for the player doesnt mean its better for the sport..

the same for all businesses really.. short term gain doesnt mean long term it works.

Yep, me too.

Nobody listens. :(

Slightly different question, but can NIL bags be given to high schoolers?
Could Weitsman start paying a 5-star prospect from, say NYC, to prime the pump for a collegiate agreement in Syracuse?

So the fans come in #5? Or worse?

fans were never the reason college sports were created. where would you put them.
Syracuse athletics may have started out as diversions for college students, but if there were no fan interest, what do you think they would look like now?
No Manley complex
No JMA dome
No big travel budgets
No highly paid coaching staffs
Very little recruiting

“Created?” Of course not. But the fans are the ONLY reason the sports have sustained. Players….then fans. And that should be the prioritization for colleges.
