TE Aaron Hackett transferring to Kent St

You're saying this isn't Hackett's choice?

If Dino is cutting the roster, it's not an exodus, it's a purge. :(

Dino has one opportunity to get this right in the offseason. I've always liked Hackett, but TE isn't really utilized in this offense and if this opens a slot to get more upperclassman depth on the OL or DL, or add a traditional transfer that has to sit out a year but is a big add at another position group, then this is what has to happen.

How about maybe the young man is simply savy enough to say the right thing at the right time? Why not just keep teammates and staff happy Fri/Sat/Sun by regurgitating positive comments to the media so he can announce (enter portal) at a time of his own choosing?

Hackett can't be part of a purge, no reason for DB not to want him back.

If TE is not going to be in the offense then we may risk losing our other guys as well. This will be interesting. Most TEs want receptions and TDs, not 100% blocking.
The TE should be more involved in our offense. That's the issue.

Minus one experienced blocker, special teams force and red zone target.

It’s going to be like this everywhere. That one-time transfer is going to reshuffle how all this works. New normal.
With our Srs getting another year? If many choose to play another year, but elsewhere? Ouch.

Disappointing. I’m not sure if he’s an exact fit for the style Gilbert plays.

Aaron seems like he would do well at a B10-type of offense that values the TE out of the three point.

Grad transfers have been doing this for years. It’s also a jump to assume it’s all based on football too. Lots of things go into these decisions.

I’m glad they have the agency and freedom to move around, finally.

Which makes it worse because he made the commitment to blocking...in return the staff should have fed him the rock more. Unfortunate.
I don’t think it works like that. You play the role that is asked.
We certainly could have used more passes to TE but it’s not a quid pro quo.

It's not a written rule but it is an unwritten rule if that makes sense.

Would love to have him back, but with Morris there are still four TE's. Then you have Elmore. And instead of a TE you have guys that can flex out in Jordan, Lutz, and Pena.

If after all that they are still really hurting you can look at RTB, or the log jam of 6-5 250 DE's like Lemieux, Dawson, or the three recruits.

Just curious, do we know or are there stats for tight ends that break down the number of plays spent blocking vs plays running routes?
It would be interesting to see where out TEs stand.

Good luck and I hope he finds what he's looking for. He could block but he dropped every other ball passed to him.

Not sure...good question. My guess is the team maintains something like that but I am not sure that there's a database in the public domain that would have that info.

Where they stand? At the end of the O-Line, trying to block.
:p

We HAVE to be amongst the lowest TE usage rate in P5 this year.
Which - given the success Hackett and Benson both had last season, is absurd.

I do not blame him, at all, for looking for a better opportunity for next season.

Our ancestors used to have tails. But we stopped using them and now we don't have them.

Yep, that’s the safe assumption, it would be interesting to see how much an outlier we are.
