Texas, Oklahoma reach out to the SEC

I might be looking through orange colored glasses too but if B10 creates a super conference by adding the top ACC schools, I think SU is in. I realize football runs the show on these decisions but once you get past adding Clemson, etc you have to look a little past just football to decide on the rest of the ACC schools that would be in.

I’m going to leave stuff out I’m sure but just spitballing here, the reasons SU is considered a choice in a super conference is:
- national fanbase
- Even with FB being down SU generates revenue.
- The dome is a solid place to add as a venue for football events. It’s unique, it’s identifiable by the avg fan, it’s an indoor stadium. Fans could potentially fill all the seats.
- We aren’t necessarily NY’s team but we are a solid NE team/brand and there aren’t that many of those.

I'd like that. For FB, we were the #5 revenue producer in the ACC.

Although, I'm not sure if it brings enough value when you start looking at the revenue producers.

I guess money is all that matters. Funny - I never cared about money when playing or watching sports. Money is kinda boring. If only those with money win every game or most every game - is it really a sport?

Each year I like the NFL more and CFB less. Although the NFL is all about $$ - at least there is total parity. The Cardinals have as much chance each year as the Giants.

Maybe. However, I can see just as easily the opposite could happen and Syracuse is left behind. The SU football brand in reality is a thing from yesteryear. SU has been mostly pretty bad over the past two plus decades or so. A private school that even in our hay day back in the 90's, an excellent crowd was said to be 45K. Whoop de do! Moreover, the critical TV market (eyeballs) in Syracuse & vicinity is relatively small, and, SU football isn't captivating, nor bringing in other eyeballs from other valuable/larger NE markets, the allegiance, broader interest, etc. just isn't there IMO.

It’s interesting how the last time this happened a lot of people on here thought we pro-Big10 people were crazy. Not ideal, but it was the safer place then, and it is safer now. These moves are long-term.

True, although if 4 conferences are all that remain, the ACC is fine - provided they never lose Clemson/FSU.

That clickbait article also mentions OSU/Mich, but I think it’s way more unlikely that they ever leave the B1G.

Now if, what some CFB analysts say, becomes a 3 conference horse race, it gets dicey. Odds are on SEC, B1G and ACC being around when the smoke clears, but - as it stands - the ACC would be the weakest of the 3 super conferences, provided we can’t get ND in full member.

CFB has been boring for at least a decade. I obviously root for Syracuse, but it’s no fun watching a sport where only the same 3-4 schools have a chance of winning each year. It’s about fourth or fifth in rankings of sports I care about.

Syracuse will be included. Kansas will be included. The eastern schools have less competiton than schools in Texas ect. BC Pitt SU Pstate will all be in. There isnt anything else. When you get into concentrated areas or schools that are in poor geo areas like Okie state, Oregon State, you start to get into trouble. If you look at the United States you have to have coast to coast representation. SU is the only school from the state of NY. NY is not going to be left out. ND SD Wyoming Ok they will be left out but trust me NY will not be left out. Add in JW and his influence, All of the media giants from SU and The President and i think we are in good shape.

I don’t disagree with any of this either. I think if the mega conference thing develops it’ll be the pro/con list for each team the value they potentially add. We def have some negatives, which makes me nervous with all that’s played out the last 2 days and the long term implications. I hope that because we do generate revenue (at least compared to our ACC peers) that that in of itself is enough of a positive when they’re picking the last 2 kids in gym class.

This thread gave me diarrhea. I know… don’t read it then, but you know , the crash on the side of the road, you gotta look.

Maybe because I live down South, but the CFP semi-final day has become one of the best days in sports.

Expanding that playoff will make Saturday’s a little less interesting, but while I’m finding Syracuse Football to be a chore lately, I do love watching whatever SEC 3:30 game is on, along with the occasional Clemson game.

The B1G is boring, Big XII won’t exist much longer and PAC, no comment…. but if our league - Syracuse included - could ever get more than 2-3 teams ranked per year, I’d find ACC Football a fun watch as well.

It’s all about money. Fine. Always have been, always will be.

They didn’t.
The Big Ten wanted to break the ACC.
I don’t get how people don’t realize this.

I think the odds of some ACC - B1G partnership/merger are about one in a million.

But as to the past, Delany is gone, Swofford is gone, Texas/Oklahoma may have changed the calculus for everyone.

So I think you can cross that one off the list.

CFB has been brutal.
Outside of the Oklahoma-Georgia semifinal the games have been mainly blowouts.
The only other good game I can remember was Alabama-Ohio State in the first CFB.

The semifinals suck.
College football has a problem because the committee doesn’t reward underdogs it’s all about the best talent and the same schools are always going to have the best talent.

Yeah I am sure the Big Ten would absorb some of the ACC schools if they would leave but it won’t be this super conference our board thinks is possible.

They don’t get the Big Ten CIC is about research dollars as well.

That is why I propose the ACC and Pac-12 strike an east coast/west coast alliance use the ACC network with ESPN backing and increase the payouts for each conference with a scheduling alliance.

That’s why they’re expanding it… well, not really, it’s obviously about money, but it will allow some lesser teams in…. Even though they will get slaughtered by Bama/Clemson.

We should all be thankful that Clemson has become the 1b to Bama’s 1a, because the rest of our conference has been the PAC since Jameis left FSU.

The big ten gets hundreds of millions of dollars of research grants and funding every year shared between all schools because they are AAU members. AAU membership guarantees a high level of commitment to research specifically STEM and biotech. The Big Ten styles itself as more than just an athletic conference and they won’t be giving that up. It’s too important to the school presidents

I don't. I think it's 50 50.

Here is why. Big wants a southern footprint. Big already plays a series against ACC in Basketball. ND would be in. BIG plays Lax.
ACC commissioner Northwestern guy. Academic fit.

Question. Why don't you think it happens.

I think Duke, UNC, GTECH, Pitt are in the AAU. We used to be no?

ND isn't so I assume they can't be in the B10 because of if?

On the macro level I’ve always been way more into the NFL over college football

Based on how Buffalo is trending and how Syracuse has been trending, it’s easy for me to say that now…. But I agree.

It’s also no coincidence that the only places in the country you could legitimately say CFB > NFL are in SEC & B1G country.

The Big 10 would over look that requirement for us. In the 90"s when they offered us full membership it was not an issue. But we are not going to the Big 10.

To think the NFL has become more appealing overall is pretty funny but that’s what’s happened. I used to love watching CFB beyond just SU. I don’t recall in quite a few years even getting super excited about a non SU game, other than the playoffs which end up sucking. I think the current trajectory of realignment could potentially have the opposite impact these schools are hoping for.
