you might want to ask the former fans and players.
Ah yes, the ole “well ask X if they found it great.” Everyone thinks everything is great when there is no alternative. I loved working at summer camp for $4/hour, didn’t mean I didn’t think it was pretty messed up that kids were being watched by people getting paid less than minimum wage.

But let’s not act like my privileged upbringing is is a good example, instead perhaps you should do some research into the history of exploited people who claimed that their mistreatment was “fine.” They were used in mass during the civil war, do you think they would’ve supported their statements knowing the alternative?

Your nostalgia does not make up for the way players were used as pawns in a massive game of keep away.

you don't wanna play college ball and get a free education and exposure walk away.
that's not slavery my friend. it's you who insults history. in the name of competitive fairness the NCAA sets rules that said wealthy donors can't buy players and those in violation would be punished. those days are gone. college / pro is meaningless.

For those who like this sort of stuff, just got confirmation from Adam W. about his guests tonight.

See? Those of you who don't see how this helps our brand; celebrities at court side keeps our games seemingly like "events", even when the place is only half full. They are Twittering the hell out of all these visitors.

Does Adam know this is Giants / Bills country? Hurts is as likely to get booed than cheered.
He didn’t know it was Orangemen country when he brought Iverson.

Couldn't agree more.

I appreciate the star power. I would just rather go back to the days when SU was winning consistently, making the NCAA tournament was a given, we didn’t have to sweat out games against mid-majors in November, and the biggest celebrity at the game was the mattress guy. Just my opinion.

Weitsman is doing good things, no doubt. But he could bring Paul McCartney, the ‘92 Dream Team and all the living presidents to the game and - just my opinion - it doesn’t mean jack if we aren’t winning.

What does one have to do with the other?

I’m just saying that Weitsman - though he means well - is coming along at a time when the program is way down. It’s not his fault. But while people are enjoying the wow factor of seeing movie/TV stars and hugely successful athletes sitting courtside, I’m just in it for the W’s, that’s all.

there will be lawsuits when some team members get paid and others don't. some sports get paid and others don't. it will get messy. NIL is BS and the ruination of a once great tradition. this will create more problems than it seeks to cure for a privevledged few.
What lawsuits? That is not even rationale.

WHAT IF A SCHOLARSHIP MUSIC STUDENT MADE MONEY DOING GIGS.
ALSO, WHAT A COLLEGE STUDENT MAKES OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL SHOULDN'T COCERN ANYONE.

I appreciate all you have done for Upstate NY. Don't listen to the naysayers here and around town. I appreciate your donation of time and money. I appreciate your vision.

I love that you made Clover Restaurant in Skaneateles. A place where the entire community can get a great meal at a modest price.

I have mixed emotions about NIL and what it will do to college sports but I do appreciate you are choosing to help keep SU and possibly other schools relevant in these turbulent times through NIL. I know it can be infuriating to read people's criticism of how you spend your money. It is your money and you do what you want with it.

Your heart is in the right place.

He is currently the most important individual in SU athletics. Crazy to say, but prove me wrong. NIL is here and heavy and either step up or be left behind. Without him seriously where are we in our outlook? I hope this starts a snowball effect for the rare super wealthy that love cuse sports. We need them to win. I’m excited to see what happens here over the next few immediate years. Can this effort bring us up to where we expect to be as a program in regards to football and bball? I’m happy we have a shot, due to him and I’m sure some other less public donors for NIL.
.most important give me a break

Good comparison. The most reputable music schools have gig offices located in the actual school and they talk those up when they try to recruit high school and grad school musicians. Now, the amount of money is exponentially different of course.

I just wish these celebrity visits were happening 10-12 years ago when the team was a consistent top 10 team with big wins in the dome.

It’s also an open market, like the job market. People don’t complain that a stock broker makes significantly more money than like a janitor. Or like how people don’t complain that the men’s basketball facilities are much better than like cross country or volleyball.
As a consumer of college hoops and an alumni of SU I don’t care about the open market conditions

The Nfl is high level socialism w their salary cap. College sports needs congressional teeth or a collectively bargained deal w these employees full stop

That’s the solution to making the product palatable again. As an alum I can’t look ar
Footbal or Hoops players as students anymore. They are the equivalent of professors since they will be paid at this point.

They aren’t getting paid by the schools. They essentially have a job like every other student always could.

School admins giving interviews where they are worried about NIL deals draining booster contributions while raking in monster tv money are prob looking out for their own salaries, clout, or dissatisfied that the accounting got more difficult

On Sirius XM ESPNU radio, Danny kannell and Nicole Auerbach just spent a full segment educating their listeners on Adam and how they felt his deal w Elijah is pushing the boundaries. Interesting, glad to get in the news cycle, if only we could get back to winning.

Also as an alumni of SU, I can look at the macro environment and see that this is the next evolution of recruiting. This isn’t just something that happens at SU, it happens across the entire sport. Either you adapt or get left behind.

As opposed to the supposed $13 mill deal that Florida kid was supposed to get? Much larger deals out there than what Elijah will get.

Lol.. I mean the only reason they can even talk about it is because the AW stuff has been out in the open where as the schools they cover for just don't talk as much about it. They should just appreciate that they have something that gives them a sense of how this works.. when it's disclosed, run through compliance and a player then joins a program nearby.

With the bias and desire for hot news they just want to see a kid get a deal in CNY and then go play at Duke. They wouldn't stop praising a scenario like that.
