Awful scheduling logistics, in terms of how it worked out for us.

The funny thing is, after the near debacle against Villanova, a lot of people were happy about the bye being there so we could get our sh-t together for a CMU team that looked like they might be a lot better than they actually have ended up being.

Would kill to have that midseason bye now, for injury recuperation purposes. But you have to play the hand you're dealt.

ACC determines our bye week, I believe. So I'm not sure there is a lesson the SU AD could learn from this.

But I think we control our non conference schedule right, and then the ACC works around that? (I could be completely off on that, but I know some of our OOC future games already have a date).

We just need to make sure we line them up, and then hope the ACC can give us a bye right after them. 4 games, bye, 4 games, bye, 4 games. Sign me up. But that's what everyone wants, and the 5th and 10th weeks of the year would be really boring for TV.

That does sound right.

Why does any team in college have a week 2 bye?

A week 4 bye (wth more games, I know) is still too early for the NFL.

uneven number of non conference games that week forced a bye. Next year there will only be 1 bye week with season starting 5 or 6 days later and I don't anticipate it being until october

We will have an early bye week next year unless we can schedule an ACC opponent in week three. Week 1 - Rhode Island. Week 2 - Central Michigan. Week 3 - ??? Week 4 - LSU

some teams had week 1 byes. many had week 3 byes.. would it really have made a difference for most of this injuries.. the nagging stuff are helped with byes but the serious ones happen no matter how rested you are.

central Michigan is in week 3 next yr. Week 2 will most likely be an away acc game as I doubt acc schedules any byes before week 4 next year. Currently in week 2 there are 7 out of conference games set with these teams not having a game finalized in that week: FSU,Syracuse, NC State, Wake, Miami, Duke, Bc but BC and Miami haven't finalized there 2015 games yet and duke has 2 OOC games with dates not set yet. If I was Syracuse I'd request the week off following LSu

It could be worse University of Cincinnati didn't have their first game til week 3

If history means anything (and it often does), the ACC has scheduled an ACC game to be played on Friday night of week 2 each of the past 2 seasons. BC has hosted both of these games.

I believe ESPN/ABC required that the ACC host a couple of Friday night games each year with the last contract that was signed and I believe SU and BC offered to host Friday night games, so if they want a Friday night ACC game on week 2 again, it is going to be hosted by one or the other.

BC and Syracuse both have that weekend open right now, so either could host. BTW, I suspect the way SU ended up the only ACC with a bye in week 2 this season was this scenario: SU really wanted to host an ACC game on Friday night of week 2 this season and expected it to happen, but lost out to BC, who also wanted it (they ended up hosting Pitt that night). SU probably thought that since BC had gotten that slot the year before, it would make sense to give it to Syracuse in 2014. When that didn't happen, it left us with a hole in the schedule we couldn't fill; a major fail on the part of the AD scheduling function.

Anyway, I expect we end up playing an ACC game in week 2. I suspect w will either play at FSU last weekend or host Wake. If we host Wake, I bet it happens on Friday night. My money is on playing Wake on Friday night. It makes a lot of sense...we have no chance to have an OOC game that weekend, we desperately don't want to blow a bye week that early two years in a row and playing on a Friday night early in the season works out well for SU. The games tend to have relatively strong attendance and played at night reduces the risk for a major issue with heat playing in the Dome early in the year.

If the ACC throws this bone to BC again, it is not good. Syracuse really needs a home conference game scheduled for week 2.
