The 2021 "at least we're not UConn" thread

They know. The UMass board has nearly voted to end football, or go back to fcs. They should both go back to fcs. Many articles how its a complete waste of $$. I wouldn't be surprised if either went the way of Northeastern or Boston University. (Ended football due to lack of attendance and millions in yearly losses)

No one cares.

Hockey? 7 northeast schools are in the top 20 for attendance.

Nice loss to URI for umass, yesterday. I imagine they'll lose to Maine, next week.
UMass isn’t dropping football or going back to FCS. Not happening.

I dunno why the NCAA just doesn't come in and drop the axe on both of these programs. Have they ever met the 15k minimum attendance requirements? Do they like the built in win against low level FCS programs, calling themselves FBS?

Bell recently mentioned that umass puts ZERO $$ in the football program. Then loses by 13 to URI.

Hey RandomGuy, do you want to know the main reason I follow UMASS? Because I like watching people trying to do something against huge odds and obstacles. If the get the right coach, who knows, but i would admire a guy for trying and if he gets it going, it would be an amazing accomplishment. Additionally, I don't think it has any bearing on Syracuse football in the least.

THAT I can respect.

As a New Englander, I SO wish it was different here. With 8 Million in the greater Boston area? IF BC had as much support as Cuse? If we use 30k attendance for cuse? The same support for BC would be 400,000 in the stands.. lol.

If Cuse had as much support as BC? We'd average 2,400 fans. Our local HS's get more than that. My town of 20K will get 5K for our rivalry Game, because we CARE about that. We DONT care about 1 of the 200 plus colleges in the area. THAT is the reality of the college football culture in the greater Boston area. I WANT it to be different, but it never has been. Unfortunately, it never will be.

So UConn and Umass are looking for coaches in the same cycle. This should be fun to watch.
Jake, the UMASS/UCONN coaching search/challenge/competition is just another piece of the college football ecosystem which could be entertaining. Maybe 1 or both could get it right. I think UMASS should give Liam Coen the whole thing, the brand, the NIL, the marketing and see what he could do with it.

Why? I mean, what is the point? They just have nothing to sell. We have a hard time and we are light years ahead of them.
Maybe they should go 100% portal. They could sell that.

The northeast loves college basketball and that is because the teams can play for the tourney and the NC, they are in the discussion. Texas, Florida, California, the midwest all have lots of pro sports.
No. Pockets do. No one goes to games in Boston or NYC. Philly is really Nova. Filling small gyms doesn’t count

He won't come cheap. I'm sure the taxpayers in Connecticut are thrilled.
Their governor said he was behind UCONN football playing at the highest level, this would seem to be proof of that commitment.

That's not so bad...

Mora and the University have agreed to a five-year deal through the 2026 season, and he will earn $1.5MM during his first year. The agreement also includes the opportunity for Mora to earn an additional $200,000 annually in performance incentives.

And get what players? You think the top transfers are going to go there? They can find better places. Easily. Both programs are doomed. No league. No local recruiting base. They won't get top coaches to go there. It's a tough and brutal situation.

They don't have to get the top players, just get legitimate FBS players. There was upwards of 1000 guys in the portal, there has to be 10-20 very good ones who would go to anyplace that would offer them starting positions.
