Yes, as a purveyor of the vast and convoluted college football ecosystem, this seems like the proverbial homerun.I'd be pretty happy if I was a UConn fan.

Well, look at it this way, if a player could go almost anywhere else and start, would they go to UConn? And if they couldn't start anywhere else, how good can they be? Looks like they will hire Mora. Has a rep as a jerk but we will see. No recruiting ties to the Northeast. And there is a reason no one else has hired him since 2017.They don't have to get the top players, just get legitimate FBS players. There was upwards of 1000 guys in the portal, there has to be 10-20 very good ones who would go to anyplace that would offer them starting positions.
I don't think starting jobs are available just anywhere. Most people mellow as they age.Well, look at it this way, if a player could go almost anywhere else and start, would they go to UConn? That's not so bad...
Mora and the University have agreed to a five-year deal through the 2026 season, and he will earn $1.5MM during his first year. The agreement also includes the opportunity for Mora to earn an additional $200,000 annually in performance incentives.
UCONN's OC and DC were his coordinators at UCLA. Spanos and Mazzone. That's about a good of a hire as they can get. Have to see how the staff fills out but they did pretty ... Pretty pretty good
As a CT taxpayer, I'll just be happy if they can put enough people in that mausoleum in East Hartford to make it revenue neutral. The HC salary is a rounding error in the grand scheme of things. He won't come cheap. I'm sure the taxpayers in Connecticut are thrilled.
And get what players? You think the top transfers are going to go there? They can find better places. Easily. Both programs are doomed. No league. No local recruiting base. They won't get top coaches to go there. It's a tough and brutal situation.

yes, they have to learn to overlook young people who have no idea what they are talking about. UMass to the Big 10 or ACC for example.I don't think starting jobs are available just anywhere. Most people mellow as they age.
He strikes me as a big name (mostly due to his father) and nothing more than an average head coach. His record as a head coach in college is 46-30 at UCLA. Average season of 7-5.Nice hire. But why's he been on the shelf for so long? What's his Achilles heel?
You could just say, "Get the hell off my lawn".yes, they have to learn to overlook young people who have no idea what they are talking about. UMass to the Big 10 or ACC for example.

Was Saban demanding too much? Was Belichik not available? That's not so bad...

LOL Make sure you put his numbers up after 4 or 5 years at UConn.

I would but I am saving up to get my UMass bowl game tickets. You could just say, "Get the hell off my lawn".
I wonder what would have happened had he stayed longer. His last 2 years were trending down but he did enough to keep the job. UCLA got greedy going after Chip. If you look at UCLA before and after, the Mora years were better. And going even further back you can argue he was the best HC since Donahue left. He took over the biggest mess and almost did the most with it.He strikes me as a big name (mostly due to his father) and nothing more than an average head coach. Was worried they would hire a young coach with vision and energy. Its gonna be disappointing going there next fall and it’s empty.
2017 they still had fans and there was some sort of edge to our game there.
Mora is a good hire. Wonder who Umass will get.
Yeah, his college results are largely inconclusive. One would think that the resources at UCLA were much greater than at UConn. So, how is he going to recruit players to UConn? He seems like a west coast guy, so he better hire the right assistants that can recruit the northeast. I am sure he has connections, so this should be interesting to watch. All in all, I think it was a good hire, as his name carries some cache.I wonder what would have happened had he stayed longer. His last 2 years were trending down but he did enough to keep the job. I think they may keep their interim coach, Alex Miller, who played at UMASS and went to the FCS champion game as their center in 2006. He also coached under Chip Kelly as a GA in 2010 when the Ducks went to the FBS championship game. He looks like a young Andy Reid, smart o-line guy who knows what makes an offense work. Its gonna be disappointing going there next fall and it’s empty.
