The all-inclusive Rutgers dumpster fire thread...

really????? its all about US and our epic failures in almost two decades.
i mention rutgers because we make fun of them as if we are superior, when the reality is we are not. what part of that do you not grasp???? you then, are all about syracuse being great despite the facts.
what part of my post friday 1204 pm do you not understand????read it again and i can help you through it.

I make fun of them, not because we are superior, but because they are a textbook case of ineptitude.

A many decades long futility. Millions and millions of student dollars dishonestly spent chasing the dream of a few.

Their great sin in regards to Syracuse is attempting to springboard themselves by suggesting that we were some kind of rival.

Rutgers commits dont recieve bumps because of who they are. We all know that. lol. They get bumped because of the amount of subscribers they have. Ive had private conversations with rivals people who told me that. Ive seen several each year get bumps while SU commits dont. They actually get bumped down. Big part of that is because no one subscribes there and advocates for SU commits.

And that’s what initiated my post and why I don’t go to Rivals or use their evaluations. If they are bumping players up OR down because of subscribers then they are irrelevant and inconsequential.

During rutgers prime. Schiano was 2-2 vs Doug Marrone teams that had insufficient depth and full of 2 stars. Not comparable to SU prime years. They were never rivals.

How can you say that in a 244 page, almost 6100 comment thread? Last I checked, you don’t have that for any other school. And yes, I already know your answer, Rutgers is easy to make fun of...
My question will be, why DON’T we play year in and year out? If we don’t always recruit the exact same players, we certainly recruit the same level of player. We play in the basically same geographic area. We both compete for the same “vaunted” (little chuckle) Lambert Trophy. There is no love lost between the fans, as there are very little to no fans that like both schools. Games like that would pile in local recruits and we both play in two of the three best conferences in the country. Whether you like RU or not (did that on purpose ), it would be a major recruiting tool for both schools.
I’m going to refer back to that cesspool at Rivals and the gibberish that those uneducated RU fans post over there, I don’t know a single person that thinks of SU-RU as any sort of rivalry because we don’t play. Rivalry or not, the bragging rights of a game like that would be huge.

schianos greatest injury to us was shutting us out of nj rercruiting

Just because we like to make fun of Rutgers, doesn't mean their a rival.

That would be a more meaningful accompishment if we solely relied on NJ players but we didnt. Historically we grabbed players from NY, FLA, PA, Ohio, NE, DMV along with NJ. We grabbed good players here and there but there's a misconception that we owned NJ and Schiano took if from us. lol. Penn st had first dibs. Schiano making rutgers better had nothing to do with us.

Message board fans making fun of rutgers, makes them a rival? This thread probably represents 0.001 % of the fan base.

Hear hear... I've been pushing to have this embarrassing thread closed for years. Yet there are a handful of people that continue posting under the premise that Syracuse is somehow still connected with that program

This thread is fun doesnt mean that its the right thing but i mean if the fan board of a team has a 244 page thread with dumpster fire in it then that team is most certainly are rival. Can we have some traditions yeesh. I think everyone here fully knows its only a game of football but its fun to make fun lf rutgers.

Refresh my memory. Didn't we play them for 15 or 16 years as members of the Big East?

I must of missed the cornucopia of benefits from playing them you seem to think would follow. In other words, "Huge? My ass!"

As far as I can remember, we played them for years and years without any real benefit.

Correct. And last we heard, when Rutty was approached about a series their previous coach wanted no part of it.

I consider our football rivals Pittsburgh, Boston College, Virginia Tech and sooner than later NC State.

It’s a different age and era. Move forward or get left behind.

I haven’t cared about an opponent as a “rival” since Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and Miami in the 90s-early 00’s. Unfortunate but true.

count how many members post in this thread. Then compare that amount to the millions of SU fans that dont know this thread exists. They arent rivals. Never were.

This is a dumb take.

1. We have a history that would make them wet themselves.

2. Their best ever season wasn’t that good.

3. We handed the defending national champs their only loss this year. That’s a better win than *any in their history*

Rutgers will never be relevant. No matter how hard they try losing has been and will always be their destiny. It is in their DNA. If all of Rutgersville took the 23 and me test their collective results would simply read " Origin: Loser".

I love it how all Rutgers fans mention their 7 out of 10 wins against us, yet they never mention the fact we are 30-12 against them all time.

I guess they want credit for beating one of the all time worst P5 coaches ever. At that time, every coach in the Big East beat SU. Rutgers did nothing special.

And therein lies the rub!
We might be a has-been, but Rutgers is a never-was. Despite our struggles, at least we have a viable history to hold on to.
And let me say that i initially detested this thread, but have come around to at least tolerating it, and even post when i see something interesting.
My biggest pet peeve are those posters who somehow suggest that our program, despite its recent issues and RU’s temporary bump, is now on a Rutgerian level.
Let’s not get it twisted, we’re a long way from being as bad as Rutgers is, was, and always will be. In their self-loathing, there are some in our fanbase who tend to forget that.

enjoying making fun of the incredible ineptitude of a former opponent doesn't mean anything more than that - observing their incompetence is fun.

if any other school on the eastern seaboard could match the comedy that is the Rutgers athletic department, I'd happily check that thread just as often to see their latest escapades.

I would love to start a BC dumpster thread or a UCONN dumpster thread. That would be fun - but as low as some of their moments have been (looking at you, UCONN’s made up trophy) - they have avoided the ongoing train wreck of failure that is Rutgers.
