The all-inclusive Rutgers dumpster fire thread...

The real question is whether Rutgers covered the spread or the Buckeyes let the score to quasi justify playing them in the first place.*

* Yes, I know they are in the same division of the same conference, but that goes to the larger question of the B1G justifying Rutgers in the conference and claiming B1G teams cannot play FCS teams.

The current SI has an article called "First Team to Worst Team" about the sorry state of Rutgers football. (It's not on-line yet.) The "First team" reference is to the fact that they played in the first college football game in the US, (it was really a soccer game) in 1869.

I sent them a latter to the editor:

Dear Sirs,

Shouldn’t your recent lament for Rutgers football, (First Team to Worst Team, November 18-25 2019), have included an interview with Professor William Dowling, who had so much to say about Rutgers football in your previous article on it, (Why Can’t Rutgers Ever Win, August 25, 2003). Rutgers had some success after that article but they have now come full circle, so I would assume Dowling has quite a bit to say about what has happened and where they are now.

Ohio st. was playing 2nd's and 3rd's in the 3rd quarter. lol

Makes sense - save your first teamers from injury in a basically meaningless win/game when two tougher games are on the horizon.

So sad.

Schiano wanted Rutgers to make the commitments needed to give him a chance to win. Rutgers wasn’t willing to. They are content to cash their B1G checks and perhaps some day have an athletic program that breaks even. And loses badly in all or almost all sports.

They have accepted who they are. Good move. A better one would be to drop all sports, or at least drop down to the Patriot League. Is that the league with Lafayette and Lehigh in it? That is where they belong. With peer schools.

Interesting note from this article regarding others in line for the RU job:

As for Schiano, several individuals close to him believe he would have interest and could emerge as a serious candidate at Boston College if that job opens. The Eagles are 5-6 this season after a blowout loss at No. 15 Notre Dame on Saturday. The Eagles will need to win at Pittsburgh next weekend to finish .500 and qualify for a bowl game, and a loss to the Panthers could spell the end for Steve Addazio, according to Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel. Addazio is 43-44 in seven seasons at BC; he has never won more than seven games with the Eagles and has just one victory over a team ranked in the Associated Press Top 25.

I agree and I would also add that they probably think Schiano is a average coach. Even if they went all out for him he would be a 6-7 win coach at best so why give him what he wants? You can get Butch Jones for less money. Rutgers people are so bent on getting a guy that knows how to recruit Jersey. What they have to understand is that Jersey kids will always leave the state. Its what they've always done.

Hey hey don’t insult Lafayette and Lehigh like that

How about we get whoever recruits o-lineman for them?
How about we bring back the OL coach that was here when Marrone was here, can't remember his name but he was a heck of an OL coach if I remember correctly.

I'd rather Schiano at Rutgers than BC.

Schiano to BC is much better for him. Has institutional support, pipeline to North Jersey parochials, only has to deal with Clemson in ACC Atlantic. Thats his job.

Rutgers fans crying today will jump off the Route 1 bridge the day he signs with BC
