If you want a good laugh go over to the Uconn board. They had a 30 something point win against Holy Cross, can you say Championship ? God bless em!

Was it a road game? Have they played a true road game yet? How can they possibly judge their team if it wasn't on the road.

Ironic that Holy Cross turned down the Big East in 1979...I think BC was the Booby Prize

I made some observations about UConn in the Seth Davis thread. I live in CT and saw that game today, all of Drummond's scoring came from layups and dunks because he's more athletic than the 6'9 white boys that HC had. He's gonna have some real issues once he plays vs. real big men in the Big East.

Also I chuckle at the boneyard saying "we have so much depth and talent across the board it's crazy". Would anyone take their 10 over our 10? They play a bunch of guys who are basically 0 scoring threats (Giffey, Daniels, Smith; Olander can hit a mid-range jumper, but he's nothing to lose sleep over). Ohraki hasn't done this year but complain about PT; Boatright is a nice player, but who knows if he's physical enough to handle Big East play. Napier has had a few Scoop-like (of old) games this year as far as shot selection. Lamb is a baller though.

That board is bordering on Rutgers football delusion thats how bad it is there. I skimmed some post the other day and it felt like I was reading the Uconn womans board who has been dominating for a decade. Every post somehow mentions last years national title and that they have 3 overall. I dont see that team doing much in the tourney this year as another poster mentioned in this thread half there players are zero scoring threats, Giffey? Oriaki? Uconn is due for another early round exit.

I thought Seton Hall was Plan B after Holy Cross. I could be wrong, though.

Hmm I better recheck..I thought Seton Hall was the booby prize when Rutgirls said No.

i think they are just bored. their early season schedule has stunk. they have alot of talented young players but it's unclear how well they will fit together come conference play. drummond and oriakhi are both centers and i just don't see them on the floor at the same time in conference. the big head-scratcher is why they think they have the deepest team in the country when they have 2 guys that play 36+ minutes per game. i watched the end of the holy cross game and they still had starters on the floor with a 35 point lead with 3 minutes left to play.

I think they will be there at the end and I would not underestimate them. Drummond seems to be starting to live up to the hype. Him & Oriachi give them two very good bigs. They are very talented at the guard spot with Lamb, Napier, and Boatwright. Not sure what they really have at the 3 spot, but if they can get adequate play from there, they will be very, very tough.

True. What could have been.
Actually, it's very interesting. Another BB-only instead of an all-sports school. If BC hadn't been asked (assuming TexanMark is right and I am wrong) and Holy Cross accepted, the "balance of power" may have shifted. Then again, BC probably would have been invited later (maybe over Rutgers, who may have been left out until the 2nd or 3rd expansion, if they had a football team left at that point).

I think Boatwright makes a huge difference for them. They have a lot of flexibility, they can play 3 guards, they can gp with the big line up, they have the one big white kid who can shoot, they have some talented wing players that are developing. Lamb can get a shot whenever he wants and even if its a bad shot he has the ability to make it. Drummand will get better but as some have said he doesn't have a real developed offensive game but most bigs do not as freshman.

I can understand saying that Uconn isn't great and you can't see them meshing together well but i can not understand saying that they are not talented. They have more talent than last year IMO. It will take them a some time because Walker did everything and everything ran through him so its an adjustment for everyone on the offensive end. I think all said and done Uconn will be right there with a handful of teams that are amongst the favorites to win it all.

"Are we really this good?"

Random thought, is it me or does oleander look like peter pan?

Say what you want about Calhoun but the guy knows how to develop and coach a team up so it improves all year and plays at its best late in the season. I wish we could play them early in January because by late Feb when we see them they will be real good.

I would like both teams to be at their best.

UConn's a very good team. I actually think they are better than they were last year, over the long haul. Remember, that even though UConn won the National Championship last year, they were still only a .500 team in conference play. They just got extremely hot at the right time of the year and had the benefit of a great draw in the NCAA tourney.

It's rather funny because there are many comments on their board when discussing Syracuse stating that we have no star player but have lots of depth......hmmm, sounds alot like UConn to me.

Also, UConn's schedule has been putrid so far this year. They have played absolutely nobody, and have struggled with quite a few bad teams. So they are still unproven to me. That being said, I still think they are a very good, very young team that will continue to improve as the year goes on. Our games with them toward the end of the year should be very difficult.

It's impossible to know how hood uconn is. Calhoun is the best coach in the country though, and I won't be surprised if he gets #4, but I also won't be surprised if he has a 2nd round loss.

Its always funny to see how quickly fans forget. UConn looked like warmed-over turds at the end of last season, but went on to win the whole enchilada.
Calhoun is one helluva a coach, and frankly, some of the posts in this thread are a little short-sighted. How anyone can dismiss UConn based on a cupcake blowout of Holy Cross is beyond me.
Perhaps we should wait until we play them before making blanket assumptions on how good they are. Those who made that mistake last year did so at their own peril. Are we better than them? Maybe...but we sure as hell can't claim a NC in December, based on subjective poll rankings.

I don't think we can use last years tournament as a good example. That was just a terrible tournament. OSU was the only great team in that field.

I think most of the UConn fans are "excited" over their blowout win vs. Holy Cross because they really haven't blown anybody out this year. While we've routinely had 30+ point victories, the Huskies haven't. They've been grinding out 10 to 15 point wins vs. very poor teams. I think their fans have been frustrated coming of a NC title, have extremely high expectations, and were just happy to see a dominant victory.

I'll reserve additional judgement of UConn when they actually play a decent team, but that may take a while because they don't play a ranked team until February 1st at Gtown. (I don't consider their wins vs. Harvard and FSU to be too impressive).

syracusefan.com where its more important to be #1 in dec than to win the tournament.

go ahead, keep making fun of them. bees should open the flood gates and let a whole bunch of them in here carrying their 3x National Champions bling, including the most recent one...and let them sandusky you all.

Oh Lord

Sounds like somebody needs to sing a Christmas Carol.

I heard the same BS when we won in 03- that Kansas "should've" won because one of their bigs (name escapes me) was injured. That the tourney was weak, which is why SU ended up winning with freshmen. etc. etc.
I have yet to see our banner pulled down or record erased because things weren't "perfect".
UConn won last year- thats ALL that matters. I doubt we'll look back in 10 years and say "that UConn team sucked, and the tourney was terrible...erase their records- rescind their NC"!!!
Yeah, makes perfect sense! :bang:
