The committee finally annoyed the talking heads

Dropping undefeated, defending National Champion FSU to 4?

Riiiiight...
Especially when the mighty SEC finally played someone outside the sunbelt, and pulled an 0 for 4 against the ACC. Had that been the other way around, everyone would have said, see the ACC isn't among the top 4 conferences.

Do you realize how game locations are decided? #1 seed gets the game closest to them. FSU is closer to the game that Alabama will host as the #1 seed. Otherwise they go across the country to Cali to play Oregon.

In essence "screwing" FSU by rating them 4 instead of 3 is actually providing them a shorter distance to travel and the closest thing to a home game to play Bama. If FSU is the best team they would have to beat both Oregon and Bama anyways, might as well best Bama first.

That's not the real story IMHO. They just entrenched TCU in the top 4.

No way they are dropping them from 3 to 5 if they win and tOSU and/or Baylor win. The top 4 all control their own destiny now.

I could see FSU jumping back to 3 if they beat GaTech soundly. But I think this locks in TCU into the playoff assuming they handle Iowa State.

And they're not putting a 1 loss tOSU it Baylor in over an undefeated FSU.

They should give each power conference an auto-bid, ND an auto-bid if ND finishes #8 or higher using the old BCS system, and the remaining 2-3 schools should be picked by the committee (possibly giving one slot to the highest g5), who should also pick the seeding (which matters more for second round games) with the following restrictions:

1. The B1G champ and the Pac must play each other in the Rose Bowl
2. The SEC champ and the Big XII champ must play each other in the Sugar Bowl
3. The ACC champ plays the highest ranked remaining team (or ND) in the Orange Bowl
4. The Fiesta Bowl hosts the play-in v. play-in game.
5. The Cotton Bowl and the Peach Bowl host the second round games
6. The NCG goes to the city who is the highest bidder.

Nobody could realistically feel left out in that scenario, and it would eliminate virtually all the guess work/controversy. All any team would have to do is win their conference championship game.

Screw ND. Why should they get special treatment in this day and age?

Am I the only one hoping Georgia Tech beats FSU this weekend?

I know, I know...ACC pride. But I really don't like that program.
I am rooting for GT and for Winston to get his butt booted out of FSU.

He's leaving anyway. Probably right after the playoffs.

Might it have been the fact that FSU played a team that is not even remotely amongst the top six teams in the SEC and yet were life and death with the Gators on their home field. I find it refreshing that the Committee is paying attention and that how you play matters. In the old days FSU would have been ranked #1 by the pollsters. Quality of schedule and quality of play should matter.

If you are in the top 4, that's all that matters. If a team wants to feel insulted, go ahead. The main point is that you get to play for the title on the field and not in a poll. Team #5 gets to bitch about it, but nobody in the top 4.

Just be glad the lacrosse tournament committee isn't deciding this. It would be Alabama vs. Florida State and TCU vs. Baylor in order to save on travel expenses.

#1 gets its most convenient location. And #2 gets the second location. This year, with Rose and Sugar as the hosts, Alabama and Oregon slide in nicely. Going forward, it won't always work out so neatly.

We could easily see 2 SEC teams matched in the Peach some year, which would be interesting.

If FSU and tOSU both win, I can easily see the committee giving the 4th spot to whichever team looked more impressive on Saturday.

My thought is they put Alabama against FSU in order to have at least one large media/viewership draw in the final. My guess was that they didn't think a TCU-Oregon Final would be very attractive to viewership. :noidea:

Imagine if OSU had defeated VTech. If these rankings truly are of the four best teams in college football right now, we would have an undefeated team from a P5 conference who wouldn't be going to the CFP (either OSU would jump FSU and the Noles would be ranked fifth, or OSU would be ranked fifth or lower).

OSU should be sixth behind Baylor. wins v TCU, OU >> wins vs Sparty and and a loss to Va Tech is worse than WVU. That same WVU team that gave Bama a game week 1. While we're at it, if game control is such a large measure, Oregon should be 1 and Bama 2. After all, Bama has been in dog fights in the third quarter like Florida State. That same Florida team that FSU gets no credit for beating was tied with mighty Bama in the third quarter and Bama were down two scores in the third to Auburn while FSU lead their entire game. Also, if and msu win is good enough to jump osu over baylor, shouldn't an msu win also carry oregon over Bama?

I feel like SU is still in the Big East with these polls. Meet your new boss...same as your old boss. But hey...it's the good old eye ball test.

FSU has played 11 P5 teams out of 12. No one else in the top 7 has done that. Bama has played 9, OSU 9, TCU 10, Oregon 10, Baylor 8, Arizona 9. There is no doubt in my mind it's time for all the average or bad ACC teams to play 4 home patsy OOC games like Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas A&M and Mississippi St did to bump up the other SEC teams SOS. Oh and Auburn and LSU joined Bama to only play 1 P5. THIS is how you manipulate the SOS. If I'm not mistaken...the ACC played the most P5 schools OOC while the SEC played the least.

It's FSU's own fault for white knuckling out these games. Georgia Tech beating Georgia was huge for FSU. If they win they could easily pass TCU. And really, FSU doesn't look like a top 4 team.
