Subject: Lawrinson camera

Dear Mr. Sala,

My name is Bill Phillips a '68 graduate of the school of Industrial Design.

I have been, since the beginning of this project, the daily play by play announcer of the Dome construction site writing what happens each day to about a thousand people - members of syracusefan.com and guests.

I try and make it fun for me and them.

Up until a day ago we had a great view provided by you or Hayner of the Dome, the main yard, the arrival of and offloading of spirals, and girders, the loading of the counterweight tray for "Walt" and the attachment of lifting straps and collars in the main yard. It's exciting for us Craniacs and keeps us graduates occupied as we watch history being made.

However yesterday the camera was moved from the position it was in for months to a very "cropped" position of the Dome as it now only shows us the live stream from edge of the west side to edge of the east side of the Dome excluding the main yard and all that goes on there - sort of confining if you will.

We don't see what we were used to observing which was much more interesting. There have been many who are wondering if the position could be moved to its original position?

If it is at all possible could you consider moving the camera back to where it was? Many would thank you for your effort. We all know your title and responsibilities - you are a very busy man and this is just another little thing to attend to but would make people on the site very happy and appreciative.

Thank you for your attention and for reading this.

Sincerely,

William J. Phillips, Jr. SU 1968

One letter in an e mail surely makes a difference in that Mr. Sala says "he will look into it." Maybe we get back to the old view we were all used to seeing or maybe since the work is right in front of the live cam that's what they want us to see close up - we'll find out.

Good day today! Two more spirals are UP! That means two more girders are close behind!

Wish I could wee more of the site to describe what is happening - like now are we low on spirals - are there sufficient girders to work with. I can't, like you, see deliveries or strap hook ups or collars on spirals in the yard all of that and more. I hope we get the wider format back.

Saw a girder heading towards Skylar. Not sure what we have in Walt's yard. If their is one there, I am sure scaffolding has to be attached before it can be raised.

I was wondering what you're background was. You're obviously much more educated on this stuff than I am so it's been interesting.
My career has been very interesting. Industrial Design includes Corporate Identification, (logos), for very large corporations small ones and small business, even individuals, smart freelancers who operate by themselves and realize a great logo is very important in attracting the eye to what they do, product design, packaging design,
literature design, concept design, naming, brand identity, corporate signage, web design and more - it's all aesthetic based and back when I had class from 9-5 in the basement of Archbold Gymnasium for six years it's a 5 year major with a thesis but I was married and living in married student housing had to tack on another year to finish all the credits. Hard work but all creative and rewarding. I interned during one summer for G.E at Carrier circle they had a design studio there doing televisions. G.E. flew me to Louisville, KY and hired me and a design consultant firm hired me in Farmington, CT west of Hartford, CT. Loved every minute still do. If you are familiar with the York Peppermint Pattie logo and package I designed that 40 years ago for Hershey (my 15 minutes of fame) along with the gun manufacturer Browning Fire Arms Stag with doe in white space inside him. The company that owns Browning is based in Belgium so I travelled there and Utah were they are now made in the U.S. Also for 7 years was the Director of Graphic and Product design for Bell Telephone in CT. Designing phones and the CES show booth in Vegas. Much time in Vegas as CES is held each Jan. They produced the phones in Hong Kong and Taiwan so spent a lot of time there and in the air - 15 hours flights were not really fun. But I loved it all. Been all over the US especially in California designing racquetball rackets for Ektelon and the colorful graphics that go on them every year for ten years. So, Europe, Asia, most of the USA - it's been great and still is.
I hope we get a lighting company who can light up a Crown Truss with light that will be amazing which this entire project will have been. I digress. :)

That usually takes a few hours. I suppose it is possible to happen today but expect the girders will go up tomorrow morning.

Bmy count, the two girders about to go up will leave 10 left to be installed. 2 on the southwest wall, 5 on the south wall and 3 on the southeast wall. They have reslly
stepped up the pace since the dome was closed. Props to the crew.

Assuming the spirals and girders needed will be on site, they should have no problems completing the crown truss in the next 2 weeks. Heck, they might even be able to finish it by the end of next week. But for this project, a long run of sustained production room with no big delays seems a lot to ask for.

The big thing I can hoping for is a series of deliveries of spirals and girders over the next few days. That would be awesome.

If it is deemed non-essential can't they take it to court and get an injuction? It's not like we're under martial law.
What's the legal basis for shutting down businesses or workers and how would it hold up in court?

Too many people are willing to set aside their rights and liberty for "safety". I doubt anyone brings it to court, wouldn't look good in the eye of the public.

Thanks! I remember that commercial liked the woman and her sighs best. I changed the package again for Hershey after that one to a more reflective foil as well as altering the logo.
Ha! Where do you get this stuff almost immediately after a post?

One reason I love this place is because of all the cool people that contribute here. There are a lot of accomplished folks here, those who are in the midst of accomplishing cool things, and those that are studying to do cool things. There are many great stories here. Thanks for sharing yours, Bill...

You are very welcome Don.

Was the red supposed to be the blood of your enemies?
