the crane the crane

Agreed. Still think it is weird that we appear to be going with a setup that is going to change depending on the size of the crowd.

Prediction: at some point in the next 3 years, a solution will be found that allows the scoreboard to be moved from over the center of the football field to over the center of the basketball court as needed.

That scoreboard is too cool to be left way behind the court for basketball games.

I get it costs some money to make it happen and I bet they already know the cost. Just need to get a sponsor. This would be a great move for Amazon, who is about to open 3 locations locally and become a major local employer. What a good way to establish good will and support in CNY.

If the student section (and showed up consistently) was in those seats, it would be one of the most intimidating venues in college basketball.
When the dome opened, half of those seats, the ones on the right, were all students. The students also had a big portion of the seats behind the south basket.

They willingly gave the court side seats away a few years later.

Not a smart move.

I would fight to get the students all the seats in the movable sections if I thought they would show up, act like students and carry on the great rowdy and supportive tradition set by decades of Syracuse students.

i don’t think the students of today care much about these things though. There are still some exceptions but it is a very different student body than when I went to SU.

I was sitting in those courtside student seats when Sherm broke the NCAA assist record.

As sutomcat indicated, many of us did.

Freshman year at mid court 20 rows up.
The next two years, with friends, in the lower bleachers, just off of center court, in rows 3 and 1.
From those seats I was able to hit Dick Enberg in the forehead with a beach ball. I spoke with him after the game and he was OK with it.

The “Oh s-h-1-t” years. ;)

I was there too brother. Those were the days my friend!

It's also unfortunate that "the students" gave up those seats. It's not like they're lifelong season ticket holders, they are there 4-5 years at a time and they're gone. Decisions made at the time by a few, affect the atmosphere forever. Can never go back now

So true.

I think part of the reason the students don't show up in the numbers they did back when I and many others on the board were students is because the seats are not that great any longer.

Even if SUAD just took the blue individual chairs that sit on the runners that fill the gap from the eastern end zone movable stands to the floor, and assigned those to students, I think it would completely chance the atmosphere of the building.

It would be an adjustment for the season ticket holders that would sit between the students (court side and above them in the permanent seating in 122/123/124/125). Some season ticket holders (big money donors) would be affected. But I think it would be worth it.

If we are ever going to do it, it should be when the bench seating at the dome is swapped out for individual seats, which will displace just about every season ticket holder anyway.

The seats lost to non-student season ticket holders with the move could be recaptured from current student seating behind the southern basket. The seats would still be good, but this will surely cause revenue to drop.

SUAD is always talking about how important the students are and how they are the first priority. This would be an opportunity to show that they mean this.

Just a beach ball? I can recall oranges and toilet paper hitting the court in Manley. ;)

Very different teams, league, drinking age, campus atmosphere, and other distractions. It was a happening in the old BE days.

I had 4th row seats at the half court line senior year (87-88). Un friggin real in hindsight.
Camping out for seats - 3rd row foul line 81-82. 10th row foul line 82-83. Ewing. Mullin. Sonny Spera. Beat Clyde and Hakeem. Jordan & Perkins. Ended up behind the hoop the next 2 years - Pearl at the buzzer! Incredible times! Never saw a game at Manley, but what an experience. Miss it a lot.

I slept outside the dome in cold weather for seats...those were the days.

I won't hold my breath with this half assed administration

In the good old days half the kids were from New York State and the cost to attend wasn’t completely outrageous. Now we have a large percentage that are from oversees who pay full freight. Not sure if the undergrad population is higher or lower but times have changed indeed.

Funny how this administration has made more investments in the AD, (this includes Wildhack internally of course) than any other in the history of the University. If you don't like this one, then you must've really hated the others.
This one sucks the least. Real low bar

Looks like the Carrier Dome is about to become the only domed stadium in the Northeast US/Southeast Canada.

I wonder if this will help the dome land more big name concerts during the winter? Couple in the coming addition of AC and the dome should get a lot more concerts in future years.

Interesting.

The Argos play at the Toronto FC Soccer stadium ( BMO Field ). Haven't played at Rogers since 2015.

I would think it would definitely help along with the improvements to the sounding/lighting systems obviously. But I wonder how many artists would prefer just booking arenas in larger cities for winter shows.
