the crane the crane

Yes. Almost sure they worked last Saturday, for instance.

OSHA laws can be handled by staggering the crew.

Can’t believe the deadline moved out.

Maybe many from the crew had use it or lose it PTO?

i can’t believe steel from Montreal is the problem now; they appear to have it all in place and ready to go, at least for the next step.

I got nothing.

It may be that they have the worked prepped for the next step but due to a scheduled event, they would not have sufficient time to complete the task safely (assuming they include a window to compensate for complications). Just another guess.

Good call. Without more knowledge, this would be my best guess as well.

No activity again today.

I took a picture of part of the Irving Ave storage area last night. That big red thing is a storage unit. Those yellow collars are way more heavy duty and impressive up close. The ladder used to climb up on the box girder gives a pretty good perspective on the size of those things.

I walked by Hendricks Field and took a peek in there. Didn’t see any box girders or spiral columns but there is a big stack of the rails they attach to the box girders there, as well as a large stockpile of back stay steel.

I would guess they have all the steel needed to complete the remaining back stays now.

We have action on the northeast corner this morning.
I saw the cable lowered a while back. They may just be prepping for tomorrow.
I’ll keep checking in every so often.

Where did the white crane go that was next to Walt? I missed a few days of updates...

And now it’s back up. Strange...

Tomcat: Thanks for the shots you took last night. Now I have an idea of the detail of the yard, the size of a box girder and the collars on the spiral steel columns. The ladder definitely gives the girder scale.

Regarding your questions about whether they were working last Saturday. I don't know about Saturday but they were there last Sunday the 22nd almost all day getting things ready for Monday according to my post that day. There was a crew of 8 -9. So they work weekends no problem. I had no idea there was a shortage of Montreal steel.

The smaller white crane, as Dnyr85 mentioned, is parked behind Walt. You can see part of its front right track just behind Walt. Its boom is totally vertical so it's hidden behind Walt's much larger one.

I see it now. Have never seen it parked back there before.

I’m guessing the heavy winds played a factor.
Maybe. I know they didn’t lower the cranes, which they normally do when wind is a big factor.

It is a shame they are getting so little done in the long mild stretch of weather. There was no just precipitation for 9 straight days, which is really unusual for this time of year.

When I looked in this morning the rain/snow? didn’t look too inviting to work on the steel. Maybe tomorrow morning will be more inviting.

This link tells all about what happens when there is wind and the Hayner Hoyt boys have to "Knuckle Down" Walt and some other info that will make you more knowledgeable about cranes. Click on the link then go to Our Work and click on Under Construction then Syracuse University Dome Roof Replacement. Parts like Jib, Latticed Boom, and Hook you may have to Google Cranes. Happy New Years Eve and a Safe and Healthy Happy New Year to all Crane Watchers! :)

Looks like they have shutdown for the day.
I didn't see anything really accomplished today. They sent a few people up to the installed box girders. I wonder if there is a problem and they are inspecting with experts to figure out what to do next?

It can't be normal to throw day after day after day away with the schedule that they have.

maybe they are right on pace and the schedule around the holiday was relaxed?
Last I knew, the plan was to remove the old roof the first two weeks of March. I believe that the new roof needs to be completed before the old one can be removed,

I wish a proper timeline would get published.

Here is one, as best I can piece together:

TaskApproximate Due Date
Complete Crown Trussend of January 2020
Remove Back Stays/Remaining Temporary Supports for Roof
Complete Outer Portion of New Roof (Hard)
Complete Inner Portion of New Roof (PTFE)
Deflate and Remove Old RoofFirst 2 Weeks of March 2020
Install New LED Lighting System
Install New Sound System
Install New Wifi System
Install Center Hung Scoreboardmid September 2020

As a non-professional, I would think the first 5 items on the list are a lot more involved than the last 4. Would think they would take a lot more time than the last 4. But from the little that has been announced regarding the schedule, that would not seem to be the case.

What am I missing? Are they going to try and sneak AC into phase one? This timeline doesn’t make sense to me.

There’s no way the crown truss is going to be done by the end of January. I doubt it will be close to finished by March. We’ve watched how long it’s taken to do what they have completed. If the weather is bad it might delayed even further.

I think if AC is not installed by September that new dome wil be an oven in early season games. The air handlers will no longer be able to exhaust enough heat from inside nor bring in enough fresh air from outside. Whether it will be worse than before is hard to determine, will really depend on how hot it is in Sept.

I still wonder why no real time line has really been given on the key pts of the project.

I agree they have less than half up now, and that has taken oct, nov, dec. I can not see how the truss is finished by end of January, even if you allow for improved methods. On top of that they have lucked out so far with really nice weather, doubt it stays that way through January.
