I wish there was technical nerd talkAny chance we can split the crane thread into a pics thread and a discussion thread? Some people just want to see the latest visible progress and skip the technical nerd talk.

I love it too, even if I don't understand most of it. Just on some days when I don't have much time at work, I just want a quick fix.I wish there was technical nerd talk

Is the plan to put up steel in all four corners first and then connect the corners?
Or to get one side completely done and then the other side?
Since they have the back stay steel in place to connect the two corners already in place, and there is no back stay steel in place at all on the southern side of the building, I would be really surprised to see the other 2 corners go up next.Is the plan to put up steel in all four corners first and then connect the corners?

Bees has blotters with Walt printed on themRumor has it, you can call a guy, goes by the name of "BEES" at 555-qwikpic. You can score a dime bag of crane photos. If you really need it.
Seriously, the pictures, comments and the video camera are a bit like crack, you just can't stop.

Perhaps the steel mill was waiting for final dimensions once this much was done? It may that all of the pieces were calculated but perhaps they also compared the calculated to the as-built and decided adjustments were appropriate? This seems to be a tricky kind of puzzle to assemble with lots of steps...Since they have the back stay steel in place to connect the two corners already in place, and there is no back stay steel in place at all on the southern side of the building, I would be really surprised to see the other 2 corners go up next.
It looks like they are planning to complete the 2 corners (each needs a 3rd set of spiral tubes/box girder), then connect them.
Maybe they will deviate but for now, they have consistently added back stay steel, then added the crown truss elements designed to be supported by the back stays.
Who, with any actual knowledge of the project plan, confirmed there is a “delay”?I'm curious if the delay has something to do with this intersection... Seems like they have been constantly working here with the scaffolding set-up which you don't see on the triangle at the opposite end of the Dome.

Great question, and SU (rightfully so) won't come out and tell the public there is a delay. However, there has been steel laying around for a couple of weeks now through some great weather, and Sala initially indicated the truss would be up by the end of November. So my hypothesis is that there is a delay of some sort, and it seems like a lot of work has been going into this one particular location, and I haven't see this much work being done on any of the other joints.Who, with any actual knowledge of the project plan, confirmed there is a “delay”?

I don't want to get in an argument about this, but from the same article:In mid-October, Sala said "“We’re very happy with where we are,” “The next phase, hopefully within the next week or two, you’re going to start seeing the crown-truss show up. Those should start coming here in the middle of next week.”
So you are saying he said "the truss would be up by the end of November" when in fact, he didn't. He said that is when it would start.
Winter blast not slowing down Dome roof project; big piece of the project coming soon

From this November article:
"The crown truss, which will be completed by the end of January, will support the new roof going on the famed arena.
"Once the crown truss is finished early next year, work will stop for the harshest part of the winter. "
"The project is still on track to start lowering the air-supported roof, with work on this part of the project picking up in March. "
happened to be driving past the dome when the last box girder on the northwest corner was being raised. I was surprised to see scaffolding attached to it.I'm curious if the delay has something to do with this intersection... LOL. Ok, double down.I don't want to get in an argument about this, but from the same article:
"Once the crown truss is finished early next year, work will stop for the harshest part of the winter."
Based on the pace they have been moving there will be no stopping through the harshest part of winter, so to me that means there has been a delay and they are behind schedule.
