The elephant in the room

Rutgers isn't a rival. Anyone who considers them a rival must have just started watching football a couple years back.

I could care less what Rutgers does and what their record is outside of the 1 time a year we play them which will last for what, 1 more year. After that I will never pay attention to them again.

The sections they showed were half full. We definitely has more there last year and ksu brought more than isu.

Your 2nd part is false. Iowa state brought a ton more.

It filled in by late 1st Q just like ours: I think they might have had 5k more but consider this:

Much, much better weather on gameday
No weather emergency the week prior
SU slow to sell deeply discounted tix
Iowa State seemed to travel a tad better than KSU...Iowa State actually can be driven in one real long day.

Ruttie for being all of 30 miles away didn't blow them away on the attendance front.

If the attendance was exactly even and Iowa state brought more than KSU, how do you figure they had 5k more? Bad math.

I only saw part of the game. Looked like a low turnout.

I wish Doug could borrow just a little of their coaching energy. I dont care what anyone says young people need a pat on the back. Look at your own kids is the cold approach the way to go or is it better to let them know that you are proud of them and to show it. Ok homers bring it on i know lets not coddle the kids...... blah blah blah

No one on this board can acurately judge a crowd. Every spring I see reports on attendance ranging from a couple hundred to a couple thousand, and everyone is sure they are right.

I suspect there were more people in the stadium today because I'm sure they announce tickets distributed, not butts in seats. And given the weather issues last year I'm sure there were more no shows.

That being said, even if the RU turnout was slightly more than the SU turnout, that's lousy for them. At best they had 25K there, when you account for the ISU fans and the random unaffiliated/corporate attendees. Anyone think SU would have more if we played a bowl in Utica? I sure as hell do.

I love this new excuse that has been popping up...

10 minutes after our Pinstripe victory last year I was on line at a concession stand trying to buy a "Pinstripe Bowl Champions" hat.

10 minutes after a Rutgers victory and you're trolling on another team's message board.

:rolling:

some of the red i assumed to be rutgers must have been isu. but i didnt see any sections filled in.

They distributed 6,000 tix last year right before the game to charity. Probably due to the slow sales the last week due to the weather emergency.

Was at last years game and this years. More RU fans and they were MUCH louder. ISU fans were also better than KSU. Much better atmosphere (didnt say anything about the weather)than last year.

Why is everything always compared to RU? Even the ACC argument. I am an SU grad and I am sick that we are going to the ACC for football. I'd much rather be competing for championships in the NBE than competing with MD, BC, and Duke to not finish last in the ACC.

I called all my friends in NYC and NJ and asked them to leave all of their tv's on for the game... I read somewhere on the internet it boosts ratings... so it must be true. You are welcome Rutgers...

You'd think that the entire NYC DMA would do better than just 54 more fannies. :)

You mean 30K total, not SU fans, right?
Yes..,.I figured SU was 20-22k

I still think there were more people in the stands this year...I agree both figures look nearly identical from last year to this year. I can't explain the turnstile count being nearly equal. Maybe fans stayed longer this year and sat in their seats as opposed to last year when it was down right cold after the sun set. It looked like 5000 more fans were in the seats this year.

SU fans were smart enough to buy tickets for the heated suites.

RU fans sit in the cold.

I didn't think so at all. And obviously I'll trust the turnstile count over all of our eyeballs anyway.

I'm shocked no one is commenting on the game. I'll go along with it.
this was a huge game. it was so important that it is currently the 19th highest headline on the new york post sports website. i tried to watch it but i kept finding myself turning the channel and forgetting about it.

i know i spent long periods of time in the heated lounge last year. man it was cold.

It's the truth man. I couldn't care less about the Big East anymore. I will always hate WVU, but they are going to the Big XII, so they don't count. The rest of the Big East bores me in football (and yes, I know Rutgers beat Pitt this year. That is never acceptable, IMO).

A good 24 hrs. nonetheless for their program...first knocking off the 10th rated Gators in hoops and then winning their 5th straight bowl game...though, I agree, the particular bowls and opponent's they've conquered were really, inconsequential/nobody in particular...

I appreciate your perspective a lot... Do you really feel that SU can't compete yearly with everyone in the ACC outside of Miami, Clemson and FSU? I also feel on any given year we can beat those teams as well... Heck BC has had good success so far, why can't we. There is also something to be said for playing FSU and Miami as opposed to SDSU and Houston. Not sure I share your rather be in the NBE feeling...
